  1. I think it's the second option listed above. But to put the "overuse" theory to bed, it would be nice if someone else (Bradford, Bell) could be counted on to get important seventh and eighth inning outs.
  2. OK, someone check Furcal's bat...or his urine sample.
  3. So Steve Kline wants to lecture us about what players should and should not do? Isn't this the bum who once flipped the bird at his own manager from the bullpen when he didn't get the call?
  4. About Lets Go Mets, when did the crowd start adding in "hoo" in the chant? Let's Go Mets hoo Let's Go Mets hoo I can't stand that. And it seems acceptible now.
  5. ]HahnSolo wrote: in Russo code is something meaning he's young, black, with cornrows, and jewelry I think this is an unfair statement. I've heard many comments from the guy that I've taken to be subtly racist. But that's my interpretation, I could be wrong.
  6. Aaron Heilman went way up in my book when I first heard him enter to London Calling.
  7. Man Madden is just ridiculous. He bashed the Mets for years for drafting Aaron Heilman in the first round (the Mets could have had Jason Anderson!!). I guess if he keeps knocking Met first round picks, one of these days he'll get it right. Back to the topic, though, Mad Dog Russo dislikes Lastings's bling. Says he's "a little too flashy for me," which in Russo code is something meaning he's young, black, with cornrows, and jewelry
  8. If they caught that appendix before it burst which I assume they did, it shouldn't take him that long to get back.
  9. When a pitcher drives in a run, the announcers are contractually obligated to say that he "helped his own cause."
  10. I really don't want to defend Billy after all that's happened this season, and I wasn't on line for the IGT to know if this has been mentioned, but I'll say a few things on his behalf about the ninth. I thought he was squeezed on both ARod and Cabrera, and believe either or both of them should have been punched out on strikes; and I think Reyes should have, at the very least, knocked down the ball that scored the first run of the inning. But that said, it's May 21, and five times Wagner has not gotten the job done (if you include the Betemit HR in the extra inning win over Atlanta). That's hard to stomach.
  11. A small potatoes nit pick, but I'd grade Chavez higher than his C+. I also agree with Gwreck that Delgado and Beltran's grades ought to be flipped.
  12. Wow. Thought there would be more in 45 years. This is only the fifth time a Mets game has gone official in five innings.
  13. That McDowell-Orosco game was all made possible by a Dave Parker drop of a routine fly that would have ended the game.
  14. When are they going to start airing these Met Classics that I've seen a million commercials for? And will there be any games NOT from 1986? Not sure if they exist anywhere, but I'd love to see any of the '69 and '73 postseason games, the Jimmy Qualls game, the Darling-Tudor 11-inning Straw home run game.
  15. Man, been a long time since I saw the Lenny HR. Dave Smith looks like a pitcher in a 45 and older beer softball league.
  16. I didn't see a lot of this game, but I was in the car for the 9th inning, and later saw the replays. Two questions: - Strike 3 on Matsui. From the replay it looked a little high, but clearly too close to take. Was the ump calling the high strike all game? I should note that on the radio Howie did not make a big deal about it being a bad call, I think he just said it was up in the zone. -Dellucci's triple. From the replay it looked like the ball hit a restraining barrier above the wall. I don't know the ground rules in that park, but should that have been a ground rule double? McCarthy kept saying on the radio that the ball hit the top of a high wall, but when I saw the replay that clearly was not the case.
  17. Consideration the lack of posts in this thread about Kevin Elster, I guess there really is no "fascination with Kevin Elster."
  18. I always got the impression, and maybe it's a little harsh, that Kevin Elster was more interested in winning the clubhouse Hearts games and scoring with the ladies than he ever was at improving himself at the plate.
  19. I was going to start a new thread until I found this buried on page five. I'm making my first two trips to Shea this week. Thursday, May 4 vs. the Pirates, my daughter and I take advantage of her free "Mets Fan Club for Kids" tickets. On Friday, I'm seeing the Braves with a few buddies. Hopefully double good times.
  20. ]2 games each with Washington and Shitsburgh this week at Shea, i want all 4 but i'll take 3. I tend to agree, but Zambrano and Maine (or whoever Bannister's sub is) are going within those four games. Fingers crossed.
  21. Gotta figure out how to link images, but I just finished...THE FALLEN, by T. Jefferson ParkerI had the pleasure of working with Jeff on campaigns for three of his earlier books at two different publishing houses. In addition to being one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, his novels are fantastic. He's in elite company as he has won the Edgar Award for Best Mystery novel twice, for SILENT JOE and CALIFORNIA GIRL. I wholeheartedly recommend both of those in addition to his latest
  22. Hey, I'm just reporting what I heard. If it were up to me he'd be starting for Norfolk on Friday.
  23. He's had three starts. Before start one, Willie made it clear to M & MD that Trachsel was his fifth starter (!), implying that Victor was his #3 guy. I doubt after three outings he's going to start skipping over Zambrano.
