  1. I have no problem with the celebration - not over the top at all. They've had a great season and deserved it. obviously I was happy for the vets like LoDuca and Delgado, and was happy that Trax came up big with the spotlight on him. Now if only the Mets had ordered enough champagne. And I'm sure Budweiser, a big sponsor of the Mets and Shea, was thrilled to see the Mets all running around with Coronas in their hands.
  2. Willets Point wrote: The thing about baseball players, once they're out of their uniforms with the names and numbers, I can't tell who is who. So true. For so long last night, I kept wondering who was the tall guy going crazy with the many of the Hispanic players. For a while I thought it was the guy from the commercial: "I'm just here for the Bud Light." And I had no clue who he was until I realized this morning it was Oliver Perez. Oh, yeah, and thanks to all for the great pictures.
  3. I voted the Tigers. I like their ballpark and their home uniforms.
  4. So long Izzy. But before you leave can you bring a couple of those blown saves with you to the NLCS?
  5. 1969 NL East Shea V. St. Louis. Not sure who was on mound. Joe Torre 4-6-3 double play? 1969 WS Shea v. Baltimore. Davey Johnson fly to left (Cleon Jones). Koosman pitching. 1973 NL East Wrigley Field vs. Cubs. Tug on mound, ground out to John Milner at 1B. Don't know the batter. 1986 NL East Shea vs. Cubs. Gooden on mound. Chico Walker ground out. Backman to Hernandez 1986 NLCS Astrodome. Orosco strikes out Kevin Bass
  6. Besides all the photos of the fan favorites, Met greats, World championship teams, etc., I'd like to see sections on: - Met yearbook covers - all Met Sports Illustrated covers - Photos of the construction of Shea
  7. Find a place with an outdoor swim-up bar and a TV. It's perfect. She gets the outdoors, you get the Mets.
  8. I went with the third option as well. But how things play out in the postseason can definitely affect what happens next year. A big postseason and there's no way the Mets can't re-sign him. A so-so postseason and it may cause the Mets to at least explore other options. I'm reminded somewhat of Ray Knight in '86, where the Mets clearly had made up their minds before the postseason that he would not be in their plans. Of course, it was easier to let Knight go, despite his WS MVP, with Hojo and Dave Magadan waiting in the wings.
  9. ]So if the Padres hold on and win the card, the Mets start on Wednesday. I suspect that would mean that Game 2 would be a day game on Thursday, October 5. You might want to make tentative plans for a day off on that day. I don't believe so. I think you'll get a 4:00 start for game 1 and primetime for game 2. I believe both AL series are Tue/Wed, so, since the Yankees just HAVE to be on prime time, they'll get the Wed 8 PM slot, the Mets the 4PM slot, and I guess the Tigers the 1PM start. On Thurs, I think the Mets will get the prime time slot, and the other NL series will be during the day.
  10. What's the song on the first video? Great video, btw.
  11. Look in the background of that Carter photo. Jim Leyland looks worse then than he does now.
  12. Not trying to imply anything, but... How does the author know that Ryan Howard is any more or less clean than those other guys?
  13. She was the original editor on my first book, back when she was a he. I only dealt with him via phone and email.
  14. I'm still hoping the Reds pull it out. Not so much that I prefer to play them over anyone else, but if either of the Pads, Phils, or Marlins win it, the Mets will be off to the West coast for games 3 and 4 of the first round. I'd like to avoid the networks screwing us fans with an 11 PM start again.
  15. It looks like Wagner leads primarily for his 12-point "Victory Bonus". Part of the formula is that you get 12 points for leading your team to a division title. But if you look at the chart some pitchers have partial numbers in that column. B. Webb has 2, Hoffman has 3. Why? I thought the bonus implied you had to be on a division winner. Okay, now I see that the VB is prorated based on the current standings. But I still don't get it. And Wagner winning the Cy Young would be great for no reason more than hearing M & MD have a month-long screaming fit about it.
  16. ]Two college roomates won the Rookie of the year in different sports. One's first name is the others last and one last name is the others first Fred Lynn and Lynn Swann USC Nice one. However, part of it is not true. Lynn Swann was never a rookie of the year. As a rookie in 1974, Lynn Swann only had 11 receptions, and did not start in Super Bowl IX. The winner of the 1974 Rookie of the Year was Don Woods, a running back from the Chargers.
  17. Didn't their "fifth" starter, Briles, pitch a 1-hitter?
  18. 4-2 Yanks, bottom 6. on edit: what a lame 500th post for me. Well, let's liven it up a bit: Jeter Sucks! There, I feel better.
  19. If he's in that role, then take Oliver off the roster and add Maine. I'd be okay with that. You don't need both of them for the same role.
  20. The title of the thread is how many they should take. I voted they should go with 10. However, I believe they'll take 11. Pedro, Glavine, Duque, Trax, Maine, Oliver, Bradford, Feliciano, Mota or Hernandez, Heilman, Wagner. As much as I hate to say it because he's been great, the guy I'd take out to get to 10 is Maine. I really don't see what his role will be, b/c if healthy Pedro, Glavine, Duque, and Trax will be the only starters. And between Mota and Roberto, based on the short tenures at Shea this year, I go with Mota.
  21. Plumbers Pipefitters and Sprinkler-Fitters Stadium! The Polo™ by Ralph Lauren Grounds I'm really not opposed to a corporate name, but get someone who's going to stick around for a while. The Giants ballpark is on its third name in 7 seasons. That would suck. Talk about not having an identity, though I guess people still call it PacBell. The Met Life suggestion is the best one I've heard (and they are already a long-time sponsor).
  22. Okay, one more guess since I can't seem to stay away... Alex Escobar
  23. Was Izzy correct? AJ Burnett is my only other guess. I can't come up with any more late-90s Met prospects.
  24. Jason Tyner?
