  1. Adapted from Robert Harris’ 2016 novel, “Conclave” follows Cardinal Dean Thomas Lawrence (played by Ralph Fiennes), who is tasked with overseeing the Vatican’s search for a new pope. Four candidates soon emerge, each with their own set of secrets or scandals. People who have seen it tell me that Ralph Fiennes should win his long deserved Oscar for this one. Later
  2. Gil Hodges is a given. Willard Hunter needs more recognition. I vote for Hunter Hodges. Later
  3. Have we gotten to the point where we have established a Matt Allen Award for the current organization player with the most years lost to injury? If we haven't, I nominate that guy for the first one. Later
  4. LOL! Kase, from one old dick to another, you're doing it very well. Keep up the good work. Later
  5. WFAN is reporting an "exclusive" (I didn't catch the name of the reporter) That Pete has agreed to accept a three year contract with the Mets, finances not disclosed/ still being worked out. The lack of more details makes me suspicious, but ... Later
  6. The longer this goes on, Pete's image of a lovable polar bear is going to get tarnished. Later
  7. After the 1960 World Series, in which the MFYs set all kinds of WS hitting records, but the Pirates won the Series, he said. "Good pitching stops good hitting. And Vice Versa". (Veale was a minor leaguer and didn't get into the Series.) He was a 6'6" lefty who wore thick glasses and must have scared the crap out of lefty hitters. RIP Later
  8. An old expression. I said I was too old for this ****. ^ Later
  9. I dunno. He strikes me as the child who is being offered candy. He wants it, but won't take it to spite his parents. What is a better word for that? Later
  10. To quote the sergeant in Stripes, "I'm getting too old for this ****". Piss, or get off the pot, Pete. Now you're just being obstinate. Later
  11. While he doesn't have elite range, he certainly has the stretch thing down right. He saved a lot of errors on bad throws last year. Later
  12. The Wisconsin pavilion at the New York world's Fair (1964-65) proudly displayed the World's Largest Cheese. And a Tad's steak House. We can guess what happened to the cattle that couldn't produce enough milk. Later
  13. I realize it is an independent league, but are you sure they spell "Asszociation" that way? Later
  14. Two items of good news about Trey: 1) He has been signed by Syracuse and will continue to be in the Mets organization. 2) Trey got married, to a girl he met in college. I saw the wedding pictures (his mom is my daughter's friend) and she will be a welcome addition to the Mets wives club when he gets to the majors. Mazel tov to Trey. Later
  15. I agree. That would be nuts. Later
  16. At this point, I don't think the $/yr is the sticking point (probably around $30 million) but the length of contract. If Pete wants a three year opt out, I'd offer a player or team opt out clause after 3 years and see what happens. Later
  17. C'mon, Pete. Sign the contract under your tree and give all of us a present. Do it for the little children. Please. Later
  18. Griffin Canning to the left of Clay Holmes and not Manaea? BBBBUTT you said they signed him. You were so excited, we'll just chalk that up to what Tim McCarver used to call an error of enthusiasm. Later
  19. One Mets site (which I won't dignify by naming it) says that the Mets are interested in Paul Goldschmidt on a short term deal to replace Pete. UGH! Later
  20. Water on the brain? Later I have zero idea what this reply means. Swimming pool. Later
  21. Water on the brain? Later
  22. I read a few days ago that Pete says he will give the Mets the chance to match the best offer he receives. Sounds like he wants to stay. Later
  23. The teenage girls used to scream for him like he was a rock star. RIP Later
  24. His production needs to be replaced. But I'm not sure if I would spend the money all in one place or add a platoon DH like Joc Pederson and another first baseman (Walker?) and then go for pitching. The numbers 4-9 on the pitching staff (starters and relievers) leave me between uneasy and queasy. Later
  25. For what seemed like decades after Don Zimmer originally polluted the position I suffered from third base envy. And Melton was one of the players I pointed at and wondered, "Why can't we get one like him"? Later
