  1. Yes I couldn't get a sound out of a french horn or a trumpet.
  2. As a bonist i can also fake the baritone. I never realized how easy if is to play "pushbutton" brass
  3. I tried to look into this some time back and my memory is wobbly, but the sense I got was that nobody was all that invested in the draft, certainly not to the degree they would become. The stories iirc had Casey going out to see Chilcott personally while the club was on road trip in San Francisco. The same wouldn't have been the case with Reggie and it may well have been just that.

  5. I also did this on a date. She did not turn out to be my wife. In fact, she later became someone else's wife, if you can believe that shit.
  6. iirc, we were all more excited the Mets had called up Montero and deGrom was supposed to be a bullpen guy were it not for.... something
  7. Someone sent me this book many years ago but I never read it till the other day. http://www.mbtn.net/?p=3274http://www.mbtn.net/?p=3274
  8. Fox sports1 is showing random episodes of This Week in Baseball and I'm DVRing the everliving fuck out of them. From August 1981. Earlier in this show, they highlighted how the Mets won this serries in Cincinnati, beating the Seav Jon Springer (@jon.springer) • Instagram video WWW.INSTAGRAM.COM 6 likes, 1 comments - jon.springer on April 14, 2020: "Quarantwibbed 1981".
  9. Have George Bammy on a TWiB episode saying, in his Noo Yawk accent: "Havin' Frey as a coach. Dat's the funniest ting I eveh sahw."
  10. Yeah that's what I'm thinking, especially as this rain is leaking into the house through a shit window. I had zero interest in concerns of the Yuppie Class in '86. At the story, I can remember being more exasperated than entertained and don't recall what Gudenov did in this flick.
  11. I remember seeing this new in the theater and absolutely hating it. Was I wrong?
  12. I watched this whole broadcast at home as it happened. I was never so jazzed about the start of a season as I was in '84. For a few months I kept up cumulative stats on a pad on my desk, was completely gay for Strawberry, Darling and Terrell. PS-- Dickie Thon was beaned by Torrez in this same series, I believe the next day
  13. My memories are all jumbled, but data has helped reconstruct their order. It seems the earliest I can remember taking notice of a particular player was Mets pitcher Chuck Taylor in 1972. The phrase used by Bob or Lindsay was that the Mets "trailed by 6" and the meaning of the world "trailed" and "Taylor" stuck together in my brain. It wasn;t that I liked or hated Taylor, just noticed him earliest. My earliest favorites were probably Matlack and Milner, along with Millan and Seaver. The first player I "hated" was Jack Heidemann, not becayuse of anything he did on the field but because I must have turned up this hideous baseball card in every 2 packs in the summer of 75. Heidemann of course then became a Met! https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/~msAAOSwz39d2Lmg/s-l640.jpg>
  14. The version I have of the 74 beckert card is even weirder as it lists San Diego as Washington Nat'l Lea.
  15. Glenn Beckert is famous to me for being on a 1974 card that was NOT hilarously doctored despite his offseason trade--and also looked weird. Padres label, Cubs uni iirc https://www.sportlots.com/invenpics/cardkamp/18918.jpg>
  16. That would be cool. Can see him being an emotional late-inning guy for a stretch run
  17. DeGrom 5 Davis 1 Diaz 1 Conforto 1 Alonso 1 Marisnick 1
  18. I know some folks in Michigan who named their daughter Kaline
  19. Yes, it seems even if/when we get this thing under control the chances of recurrence seem pretty likely if you gather 40000 people in the same place. If they did get it off "live" you'd probably have to arrange assigned seats 3 rows and 6 seats apart, regulate flow into the restrooms, ban concessions. Just getting into the park in normal circumsatances is about impossible as it is, prepare to arrive 3 hours early.
  20. I demand more featured faces
  21. The villain should be named "Turnbuckle"
  22. #3 was the little known Little Rascals character, Stinky
