  1. It was a shame the tabloid cover of this non-event knocked out MICKEY MOUTH CLUB
  2. Srsly, I assume the right answer is c) make the guy sing for his supper
  3. Tear down citifield, build a new park that resembles Shea in the parking lot
  4. I don't wanna pee on anyone parade but who cares about a stupid skillz contest
  5. I think Keith used Gorfax in his IF AT FIRST book
  6. Edgy MD wrote: What's missing is the corresponding move. Who will they be adding to the roster? By the way, I hated how the Rhames were rotated in and out last season, with the Mets trying to effectively field an eight-nine-ten-man bullpen by constantly rotating new guys into the back-end slots. The way they kept the door revolving, nobody really got a chance to find himself, make adjustments, and possibly establish himself as a big-league keeper. Rhame never really ran with any of his opportunities but you're right, the Mets have cycled through an buttload of young relievers with next to no success being disposable short-inning, mopup guys on the AAA Express. Maybe they just don't believe these guys truly have enough stuff to get big-league hitters out regularly, or maybe it's something in their approach, which seems to be further compromised by reliably losing themselves into an every-game-counts situation by mid-June which shortens everyone's patience. I wish they'd Show Us The Plan for these kinda guys.
  7. Disappointing. His Met career, not his Met release. Angels scored on the Hansel Robles trashing.
  8. Well I wasn't suggesting they build a fan base of tourists. It's about whether the MSA and cable TV can support it. I think Nashville would be among the smaller baseball cities (roughly the size of Pittsburgh, KC, Cleveland, Cincy and inline with places Vegas and Charlotte that are also considered candidates for expansion. I do believe Nashville is growing unlike some of the above too
  9. MLB often turns to expansion after they take a financial hit. I have a hard time thinking cities with "-ville" at the end are actually cities. But I guess Nashville wouldn't be awful (better than Jacksonville anywhoo). Would be a fun place to roadtrip to
  10. Neither here not there but Bonilla could have been a very valuable piece to that '99 team, a veteran switch-hitter with power who could fake it at third, first or the corners, all good teams want one of those. It's just that Bonilla wasn't ready for that role. If he only was as good as he was the following year with Atlanta, which wasn't great but okay, it might have worked out well. The LOLMETS thing is more Bonilla-related than wasted-money related than anything: He was a guy they overpaid not once but twice and now in perpetuity; missed expectations to a large degree both times; as sure as hell wasn't Darryl Strawberry; and closely involved in the narrative of a near-great team that fell just short of its goals.
  11. Out of 4, 2.75? Nice visual spectacle, but bothered me that songs were matched out of sequence with his career. Didn't like that they included Pinball Wizard. Stunned they didn't include the the whole Someone Saved My Life story. Also I fell asleep at the end.
  12. SIGN INFLATAROD, BRODIE!!!
  13. I'll prolly take Doc anywhoo. He was more exciting to watch
  14. Do we know what happens in ensuing years? In a close contest I take the 19 year old
  15. He was the Big Prize in the Bruce Chen trade. Wore No. 25 then switched to 28 when we hired Don Baylor to be our hitting coach. I seem to recall there being some kind of personal controversy near the end of his tenure, maybe he said an unkind word on his way out or something.
  16. I have vague memories of Scott Strickland, a slight RH reliever who had a few good appearances in 03-04
  17. =kcmets post_id=39534 time=1593456767 user_id=53] I had to go to bbrdotcom and look; I have like zero recollection of Shawon Dunston's 42 G with the Mets. And I had season tickets in 1999. Scary.
  18. I don;t think Beckham was a #1 #1, the White Sox grabbed him with 8th pick, so not bad
  19. He's fat and like 35 or 36
  20. Former top draft pick, 11 years in the bigs, never became a star, but I suppose useful as a RH hitting infield reserve. Tim Teufel appears 3rd on his list as "similar batters."
  21. Like the Post is a broken record
  22. I wonder if the scumbag who ran onto the field is out of prison yet
