1. Retractable roofed stadiums because they need to be so tall almost always look terrible and not much like stadiums, from the outside. The dbacks stadium looks like an oversized beverage distributor or maybe an airplane hanger from the outside. It's only when you approach the entrance that it looks okay. But this Rangers thing looks worse.
2. Armcrow Petestrong signs his contract
3. iirc the Mlicki game was a sunny weekday afternoon, like a Tuesday, as baseball was sorta softpedaling the whole interleague thing. I was in a cubicle alongside a hardheaded but funny MFY fan colleague from New Jersey. I hardly ever mention this guy but in his own way he was a big influence on my fandom for as I was discovering an online baseball community on the mofo, this guy had appointed himself a kind of enforcer at one of the early yankee fan sites. Our collective productivity was directly related to how much activity there was on the boards on any day and the Mlicki Game was a triumph for our relationship he never forgot.
4. That was great. Franco has gone full Lebowski. Note to Howie's producer: Add footage of the plays or even stills.
5. Bankers with knowledge of the situation?
6. Game 4 on now. Remember this one better as Frayed Knot and I watched this one from the second to last row in the Upper Deck, though right off home plate. Crisp brilliant day, convinced BJ was gonna lose it at any moment, just didn't happen. Ventura just homered.
7. It was the Fox Sports organization.
8. White flirts with more danger in the 13th but induces a 2-out popup from Bonds. Whew. And here comes Benny. I confess here that I absolutely lived and died with the Mets in 00 but had a date nite at a Broadway show I can't remember with the future Wifey Bucket (it was her b-day, and I'd acquired these Tix long before I had any idea there would be a playoff game). We missed the end of this game by about 15 minutes. Rick White gets the win. A young Josh Lewin now interviewing the hero
9. Watching Game 3 NOW. We had a terrific bullpen then, as much as we all complained then. Feisty Cook tries to shiver Dwight Bernard on a hunt attempt. After a leadoff walk to Bonds, Rick White freezes Kent on a fastball for strike 3 and gets Mirabelli to fly out with 2 on. We had old crafty Franco and terrifying Benitez.
10. And when I think of Greg McMichael, I remember how Steve Phillips traded him away, then traded back for him, during the course of the very same season. Probably a short list of Mets on that list
11. =MFS62 post_id=39233 time=1593006993 user_id=60] OK. That's done. The next thing to wait for will be the first Joel Sherman column of the season (probably during Spring Training) that pisses us off. Later
12. You guys may have seen this on the Twitter or on UniWatch but I was awestruck finding this beaut of a high-school jersey while voting for candidates to end Trumpism yesterday at Frank Sinatra High, my new polling place. Reminder that the grey Mets road jersey is one of the best-looking constructs in all of sports IMO
13. I'd sooner move to 7 inning regulation games than institute the stupid extra innings rule, or do both, bit institute the stupid second base rule only after 9 real innings
14. I saw the news blip revealing the answer in one of your cloos today. Would not have guessed based on the others, maybe the Game 6 clue tho. Owl-star pitcher
15. This whole list sucked. Not to poop on the effort -- cuz it seemed like there was some labor committed to this piece -- it's just, "1 clip of Al Weis and 9 things that trend on social media related to the Mets"
16. =Gwreck post_id=39014 time=1592589647 user_id=56] The Scooter/Big Man call was fun but greatest call? It seemed a bit gimmicky. Additionally, it wasn't even the first time Cohen had used it. He had used it in 2018 when Conforto and Bruce hit back-to-back homers off Scherzer.
17. I remember the "Will It Stay Fair" game very well, but I heard the radio call. Was driving with Wifey-to-be out of NYC to Maine and pleased to have an important ballgame to listen to on the radio as we went. Of course major traffic congestion in CT and and a crap Met game in a big spot made it so frustrating I was literally punching the dashboard (it was a rental car) and beginning to turn the tuning knob, only to come back again momentarily because back then I had a purehearted innocent's faith in the Mets that has since receded. Traffic finally eased by the 8th inning we raced into New England night only to be increasingly leaning into the sound as the signal faded. What a night.
18. These vids may not be accurate to the calls I realize
19. Glider with two sub-20 trots. Last one approximately 14
20. It's hard to tell exactly from the clip but safe to say Weis did a sub-20 second circuit. Cespedes is at least 24 seconds here, or 20% slower:
21. Got around those bases pretty quick, didn't he
22. I like how Fonz blinged up his jacket, obviously inspiring Bobby Munson (also a 50s-era teen and Elvis wannabe) in SONS OF ANARCHY.
