  1. I wish they would take her off tha ir, she is a joke. god bless "Sal's Sports"
  2. i love how close this race is. with any luck these teams will beat each other up all month long and bring a tired bullpen, aching position players, and an out-of-order rotation into the playoffs against the Mets. A one-game playoff between SD and CIN in SD with the loser flying all the way to NY to play the next day would be golden
  3. as a met fan you had to know something like this was coming, i just hope he's ok and we find out that its one of those things where he would have played tommorow if there was a penant race
  4. The race does seem lacking in obvious candidates in a weak NL this year, i had a long discussion about this the other night and we came to the conclusion that Carpenter will win it. my logic is basically that he is the starting pitcher with the best numbers that plays for a contender and that for a pitcher on a non-contender (Josh Johnson is probably the best) to beat him their numbers would have to not just be slightly better but clearly better to the point that the ignoramuses we call writers will notice those numbers coming from a team that they arent paying attention to. obviously someone could break out (a 5-0 September with a low ERA for any of Webb/Harang/Penny/Zambrano) and take it away, but if everyone finishes roughly where they are now i think Carpenter wins it. as far as relievers go i think they need to have a season that is not just good but historicaly dominant to win the award, the voters wont look at them otherwise.
  5. this team, as edgy has pointed out, has an abundance of medioxre starting pitching. Any trade for or signing of a pitcher that isn't a clear #2 or 3 on this staff is a waste of prospects and/or money.
  6. well certainly the "record" itself is pretty meaningless, it probably fits in somewhere between the record for career batting average by a left-handed relief pitcher and the record for how many times rickey henderson has reffered to himself in the 3rd person in an interview. but, if you're going to talk about the record at all, it is fair game to reference the conditions under which it was set.
  7. dinosaur, look at the NL league leaders in the 1930's, the leader often had under 35 and even under 30 homers.
  8. in the 1935 NL there were 662 homers hit, there were 663 that year in the AL, thats 1325 homers or 82.8 per team (there were then 16 teams). in the 2005 NL there were 2580 homers hit, there were 2437 in the AL, thats 5047 homers, or 167 per team, twice as many homes per team as the 1935 level. edit- i realize this is only a snapshot of two years and that if i really wanted to i'd do 1930-1940 and 1995-2005 but i think this snapshot alone helps make my point.

  10. can we please put Arod in a Mariners jersey and Delgado on Toronto? aldo i hate "modern" baseball cards, in their attempts to catch the players "in action" they lose the old nice portrait look, i can't even tell who half of them are without checking.
  11. TQstats has an unlimited DL size that has served my shitty teams well this year, but it costs money so it would be foolish to use it for a league without prizes.
  12. i was at last night's game and the official scorer was a joke, twice he gave hits on balls that should have been errors.

Green can in fact be traded.
  15. NL East: NYM NL Central: STL NL West: LA NL Wild Card: SD AL East: NYY AL Central: DET AL West OAK AL Wild Card: CHW NL Divisional Series: (pick two teams) NYM, STL AL Divisional Series: (pick two teams) DET, CHW NL Pennant Winner: NYM AL Pennant Winner: DET World Series Champion: DET if the mets win the WS i won't care about this contest, if the mets lose to the tigers i can try to console myself with beating everyone.
  16. cleon, what could possibly possess you to believe that Zito can clear waivers? or do you not even know what that means? when you start a new thread i feel it should play the twilight zone music... "you are entering the Jerome-Zone..."
  17. i agree with Edgy about Mota, he's a project that you bring on board whether Sanchez is hurt or not. if he pans out maybe he pitches a meaningful inning or two in October and has a role next year, if he doesn't you havent lost anything (assuming the ptbnl is the garbage we expect it to be)
  18. Prediction: Oliver will make the Nady trade look great a few years from now. As for Mota, I don't see the need for him but if its going to cost a worthless ptbnl later on I don't really mind the move.
  19. ]This is worse than the idiots doing "roll call" at Shea. nothing is worse than that, but yeah we do need our own song, i like the idea of a sing along though. how about Billy Joel?
  20. Glavine 2.5 Bradford .5
  21. Delgado 3 Beltran 3 Maine 2.5 Valentin .5 DiFelice .5 Reyes .5
  22. get Green. he's the best thing out there that can clear waivers.

Especially since nobody else did anything noteworthy last night. if thats the standard then why did we eliminate the rule that you must give 10 points every game? reyes' 2nd and 8th inning homers, while they may pad his statistics nicely and are a nice individual accomplishment, did next to nothign to help the club win.
  24. edited. you'd have to be clinically insane to give el duque points for that game.
