  1. Marte has missed significant time though right? And Ozuna is not just a martini-sipper, and an alleged steroid user, but a wife beater - he can fuck off I wouldn't vote for him if he hit 100 home runs
  2. I'm treating any DH 'as if' they are already a negative on defense. It shouldn't be impossible for them to win the award but the bar is going to be a lot higher.
  3. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=167260 time=1724351097 user_id=68] I also agree that Lindor is a great player. It could be difficult to properly appreciate him because so much of his value is in his defense. He's about as good a fielding shortstop as there is, but without necessarily being spectacular looking in the field. And shortstop is one of the two or three most important every-day playing positions in baseball, maybe even the most important.

There is no etiquette against 3-0 swings - if he broke etiquette, it was by admiring his shot for so long before starting his trip around the bases. They used to bean guys for that. I don't think too many players care anymore
  5. I was halfway through an article about Bean's death before realizing that Billy Bean is not Billy Beane though their career stat lines are not that different!
  6. Freeland is a batting practice pitcher, Mets need to jump all over this guy and not only win the game but knock him out early and get their bullpen tired for tomorrow!
  7. Game Time: 2:22 A hurry up, get out of town day. Later Yeah I came home thinking I would catch the end of this one and the Mets were like "nope!" - that is how you get the heck out of town on a 1 game road trip stop
  8. Edgy MD wrote: See, a "hit-by-pitch" that swipes off of your billowing shirt and is so inconsequential that it goes unimpeded into the catchers mitt ... should not count as a hit-by-pitch at all. It should be ball one if you don't at least immediately grimace in pain or rub the spot.
  9. I like that Butto went 3 innings in relief and threw 40 pitches tonight. I have a bad feeling they will need him stretched out to make some starts before this season is over, but a good feeling about how he'll handle it
  10. Edgy MD wrote: The problem is that the alleged virtues of Steinbrenner's leadership are pretty much exactly what took President Trump to the top. We can have a good old time laughing at it all, but I feel like the last laugh was on us. I don't think there has to be a disconnect between enjoying Steinbrenner antics as entertainment as owner of your (least) favorite team while not wanting the same shenanigans in your government.

The thing is though that they built up so much equity early in the season (they were freakin' 45 - 19) that they STILL have the third best record in the AL (barely behind Baltimore & Cleveland) and fifth best in MLB [PHI, LAD] despite playing sub-.400 ball (15 - 25) since June 6th. I wonder what sort of sample size you need for predictive value in 'recent' games versus ones earlier in the year - Looking at two .500 teams on July 1st, is a team that went 10-20 in April, 15-15 in May, and 20-10 in June more likely to finish with a winning record than one that did exactly the opposite?
  12. Fell asleep putting my kids to bed so I missed most of this one. What a nice score to come back to! Ottavino getting the W for one out in the 5th inning of a 10 run victory really puts the LOL in that stat. Official scorer should have credited the Win to Young (which one? he shouldn't say, that is the fun part!)
  13. Striking out after a 3-0 count. yikes.
  14. =Gwreck post_id=163651 time=1721785762 user_id=56] Alvarez has to hit for Taylor here, right? Unless Alvarez is hurt?
  15. Yeah, and he has a good defensive reputation, so if he just makes the pitchers feel good that is fine too.
  16. Since it's the Mets, I assume the news will get progressively worse until the Tommy John Surgery news gets out in a month or two.
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: Yeah, not sure what he brings to the table that Bader doesn't, except not as good a stick. Last time JBJ had a BA over .210 or an OPS over 600 was back in 2020 He only has to be better than whoever he is taking ABs from in Syracuse in order for it to be worth signing him to a minor league deal as additional injury insurance. If they bring him to Queens absent an injury, that is a whole different story.
  18. The wife of Omar Minaya, Rachel, was found dead in their home. No foul play suspected no further details at this time.
  19. =MFS62 post_id=162977 time=1721392383 user_id=60] Mets have signed catcher Logan Porter to a major league (40 man roster) deal. No announcement on how they will make room on the 40 man. Later
  20. Selling has to be off the table for the Mets, but I wouldn't go all in on buying with this team either. As in, I would not trade top prospects for rental type players. Smaller deals for the bullpen or deals for players and longer control would be fine.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Alter Bridge, baby. https://not.fangraphs.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2013/01/Piazza-Head-Bang.gif> love this! Didn't even watch last night, lets get back to real baseball and sweep those Marlins!!!
  22. Edgy MD wrote: =nymr83 post_id=162556 time=1721007048 user_id=54] Is that how it is pronounced? That's how it is pronounced ... by me. I'm telling you, go with the myth. MLB has other thoughts, though. It's funny how the analyst is pronouncing his weakness as hitting the inside pitch and his strength as going to the opposite field — as if he's McNeil Jr. — while they show highlights of him pulling inside pitches over and over.

  24. Edgy MD wrote: =nymr83 post_id=162547 time=1720999129 user_id=54] Hard to find myself caring about this. It's not like basketball/football where you can be excited* to see your first round pick take the field next year. The Mets might end up with a guy named Seaver King or possibly an ambidextrous freak named Jurrangelo Cijintje. I don't see how I can be anything BUT excited. The fact that the players may be years away is half the fun! The myth is almost always better than the reality.
  25. Why would Baty help? He has not shown any ability to hit at the major league level and now you want him to play a new position on top of that? No thanks.
