  1. is a 35 year old pitcher with a 5 ERA and control issues someone you really want to bring back? you can get a guy who will give you the same ERA (and a chance at better) for near league minimum, Traschel will earn over 2 million on seniority alone
  2. Perez must have gone to the david wells school of pitching...when you've got a big lead just groove it in there. i know his final line is 5 runs, but i'm happy with this outing.
  3. Delgado doubles in 2 more!
  4. thats what the Mets needed.
  5. theres a bit more merit to that in the NBA where making the playoffs is easy and carrying your team is more likely than it is in baseball. either way i'd keep postseason totals seperate from regular season ones, and i'd keep exhibition stats completely out of any discussion.
  6. i dont think its the playoffs, its a season-long thing. i've seen Wang clocked at 98 MPH at yankee stadium, give me a break.
  7. thats a huge win. we didnt burn the bullpen and can relax a bit more against Carpenter tommorow. here's hoping there is no game 5 to worry about throwing glavine in!
  8. yikes. some meatballs for Wilson that he missed. if Mota had thrown 8 straight balls to bring Pujols up i might have led the post-game lynch mob...
  9. Mota in the 8th...interesting
  10. didn't Al hit one to the warning track to shut mike and the dog up (and win a charity bet)?
  11. Pujols just got doubled off at 1B on a routine ball to CF. the playoffs arent a good time for a brain fart.
  12. Chavez just replaced Floyd in the outfield.

  14. play ball. if it had been a AAA player would they cancel it? what if it had been a Kansas City Royal? i doubt it. if an entire team had died (say the Yankees plane returning from Detroit) then you would probably cancel tonight's game, but no one player's death should cause a cancellation.
  15. the first thing i thought of was "George has the headlines for another day."
  16. soupcan wrote: ="cleonjones11"]Maddux,Lowe,Kuo,Penny...hot team Oliver Perex Glavine and a pile of AAA pitchers. Another Yankee World series... Typical Mets since 1962 I'm sorry, what was that Nostradomus? Nostradumbass?
  17. i would do the following: game 1 (wed): Glavine game 2 (thu): Maine game 3 (sat): Traschel game 4 (sun): Perez game 5 (mon): Glavine game 6 (wed): Maine (though i'd go to Williams, Pelfrey, Bannister in that order if Maine were bombed in game 2) game 7 (thu): Traschel (unless he was bombed in game 3 in which case i go to Williams, Pelfrey, Perez on 3 days rest, Bannister in that order) i have NO confidence in Bannister, i'd prefer not to see pelfrey either even though i love the guy, he hasnt started enough in the majors down the stretch for me to want to use him in the playoffs. when i say "bombed" in reference to maine/traschel pitching a 2nd time i mean essentially more runs allowed than innings pitched. 5 innings 4 runs while not nice isnt enough for me to not pitch them a 2nd time. finally, i'd go to the bullpen early and often with anyone but glavine on the mound. if these guys give us 5 innings 3 runs i'd be happy enough. if the mets really want to carry 12 pitchers i'd drop ring for another guy who can be a long man (williams would be my choice.) i don't see the need for a 1-out lefty when we already have feliciano and pujols is right-handed anyway. i would generally restrict wagner to 1 inning, the only exception i'd make is pujols up with the tying runs on base for the cardinals in the 8th inning, or if 2-3-4/ 3-4-5 were due up with a 1-run met lead entering the 8th it would be worth using wagner there.
  18. ]And just keeping multiple uniforms in cicrulation is a crass attempt ot maximize profit in the short term, while ignoring the long-tem financial effects of degrading a brand. is there any proof that adding more jerseys has a negative long term effect? i'd like to see it. personally i dont like the black because it adds a completely new color to the team's color scheme, i wouldnt mind minor variations on the existing colors (such as the gray uniform with and without the stripe on the side.) i think they should keep wearing the black for spring training and batting practice to help sell the damn things but stick to the traditional colors for regular season and postseason games.
  19. i had 3 of 4 NL playoff teams...but i picked CLE to win it all...lol

  21. Frayed Knot wrote: MFY fans like to think of themselves as a scrappy, small-ball kind of team and are starting to rebel against the All-Star-at-every-spot kind of team, thinking that IT is the reason they're not winning now. Will be an interesting winter if this blows up on them today. that kind of lineup is a gauranteed playoff spot every year. if they dont win you can blame the pitching, taking big hitters out of the lineup for "scrappy" guys will only hurt your win total.
  22. ]For the Mets he had a bad inning in releif and was the best pitcher down the stretch for a good team that barely made the playoffs. Since then he's pitched pretty well in a ridiculous park in Texas, had a CY contender year for a surprise playoff team, and been one of the few active players to speak out against steriods. He's OK with me and has been. if he had given up a single to Andruw Jones then yeah, i'd be over it. but to lose a playoff series by throwing 4 straight balls? sorry, you SUCK. you should lob it over the plate like its batting practice before you walk in the game-ending run
  23. Glavine 5 Reyes 1.5 Loduca 1 Chavez 1 Franco .5 Feliciano .5 Wagner .5
  24. a Cubs/White Sox WS would get lower ratings too and a Dodgers/Angels one would be there as well. when you are only drawing one media market instead of two you are bound to have bad ratings. FOX is salivating over the thought of Yankees/Dodgers.
