  1. How is Schaefer doing against the general consensus?
  2. Nymr83 wrote: Grimm - Familia over Reed? why? Saves are a crap stat - Familia was very very good this year - Reed was otherworldly Well, I put them right next to each other. I essentially gave them a tie. I agree that saves are a crap stat, by the way.
  3. Here's my list. I had a hard time organizing the bottom half of the list. [list:zwcxuu2a]Noah Syndergaard Yoenis Cespedes Asdrubal Cabrera Curtis Granderson Neil Walker Bartolo Colon Jacob deGrom Steven Matz Wilmer Flores Jose Reyes Jeurys Familia Addison Reed Hansel Robles Robert Gsellman Jerry Blevins Michael Conforto Seth Lugo James Loney Kelly Johnson Lucas Duda David Wright Alejandro De Aza Rene Rivera T.J. 4. I've learned that if you accidentally refer to this movie as "Hidden Fences" then you may be considered a racist.
  5. Has anyone been following the recent news about Last Tango in Paris ? I haven't seen the movie, so I'm not familiar with the scene in question, but from my understanding Marlon Brando raped (or otherwise sexually assaulted) an actress on camera. They didn't tell her what was going to be done to her because they wanted her reaction to be genuine.
  6. Maybe I could have given it three and a half. But definitely not four. I go to these movies faithfully, as a favor to the ten-year-old boy that I used to be, who would have been beyond thrilled at seeing these characters on the big screen. But they're rarely as good as I'd like them to be.
  7. I enjoyed it. Three stars.
  8. Vic Sage wrote: Jerome Silberman (June 11, 1933 – August 28, 2016), aka, Gene Wilder, was one of the great comic talents of his generation, spanning a 50-year career on stage, film, TV and books. I heard an interview on NPR's All Things Considered with Wilder's nephew on the day that Wilder died. It would seem that both Wilder and his nephew would be offended by your use of the adjective "comic". Apparently he considered himself an actor who did comedy, and not a "comic actor." I don't know that I agree with that. If I'm listing the great comic actors of that generation, I'd certainly include Wilder. (And Walter Matthau too, among others.) But if I was listing the great actors, without the adjective, then you're dealing with a considerably larger field, and Wilder is a lot less likely to stand out.
  9. That happens with a lot of movies. The "official" year of a film, for Oscar purposes, is based on when the movie opens in Los Angeles. But some movies open outside of L.A. in the previous year. I don't know if that's the case with The Producers, but it could be. EDIT: Oops, Vic's post snuck in ahead of mine.
  10. I guess he felt that baseball didn't offer enough opportunities to get concussions.
  11. He kind of dissed his likely future pitching coach, Frank Viola.
  12. I'm not interested either. I've only seen Pee Wee's schtick when he was a guest with David Letterman many years ago. I've seen Paul Rubens in a few things playing other characters, like 30 Rock and Gotham, but that's about it.
  13. Vic Sage wrote: ...and Wonder Woman was perfection. But Snyder's got style (if nothing else) and a real feel for visually adapting comic book characters to the big screen and, unlike MAN OF STEEL, the fight scenes work well. I totally agree about Wonder Woman. The setup for the other Justice League characters (Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman) seemed to be shoehorned into the movie and could (and should) have been left out. And that "dream scene", or whatever it was, when Bruce Wayne had when downloading a file, was confusing. My mind wandered while all that was happening and my attention didn't snap back until it ended and I realized that Bruce was still downloading a file. My son later explained to me what that was about, but it seemed like a weird muddle to me. As for the fight scenes, there was one, somewhere in the first half of the movie, where Batman was wearing a trench coat and fighting off one attacker after another. It had been going on for a little while before I noticed that it was all done in one continuous take. And after I noticed that, it continued for a while, all in the same take. It was really well done. I can imagine how difficult it must have been to coordinate all of the actors/stunt men and the slowly moving camera. I don't know if I'll ever rewatch the whole movie, but I would like to watch that scene again.
  14. Better than I thought it would be, but that's because many of the early reviews were very negative. I have to say, I really hated Jesse Eisenberg's take on Lex Luthor. It was every bit as awful, and in much the same way, as Johnny Depp's interpretation of Willy Wonka.
  15. Wait, what? We were supposed to wear pants?
  16. I didn't really like it. I'd give it two stars out of five. To me, it was silly without being funny, at least for the most part. I at least give them credit for trying something a bit different in superhero movies, and it seems like most viewers liked it quite a bit more than I did.

  18. Fun fact! He actually managed to merit himself a Schaefer card, as Bench Player of the Month for June 2015.
  19. Wow, it looks like I only saw three movies in 2015, all of them of the popcorn variety. Here they are, in my order of preference: Ant Man Avengers Age of Ultron Jurassic World I'll probably eventually see a bunch of these movies on cable in the next couple of years, but trips to the theater are pretty rare.
  20. True. It would have been better, I think, to give it a more traditional name like, It's Whatever Happens In This Movie, Charlie Brown
  21. I was really happy for about two seconds there, until I got to the "bupkis" part. Oh well. Maybe the Mets will make up for it with a few hours of baseball-related happiness tonight.
  22. I skipped Fantastic Four for numerous reasons, but other than that, I'm not at all Marvelled out. (Actually, I skipped Amazing Spider-Man 2 as well.) I do faithfully watch each Marvel Studios movie and do so the weekend it opens. They're never as good as I want them to be, but I still eagerly await most of them. (I'm less enthused about Guardians of the Galaxy, however.) I was glad to hear of the news about Ant Man and the Wasp. I think the one I'm most looking forward to is Black Panther.
  23. I agree completely.
  24. Judging by the reviews, this movie is every bit the travesty I figured it would be. (And I have to say, I'm very gratified by how bad the reviews are.) I hope that some day there's a Fantastic Four movie that respects the source material. This one certainly isn't it. I never would have imagined that there would be an FF movie that I would have no interest in seeing, but it's happened.
