  1. Gonna rewatch Batman Begins tonight, and Dark Knight tomorrow and probably see Rises over the weekend. Begins didn't do much for me the first time around, but I really liked the second movie a lot, so I'm looking forward to giving it another shot.
  2. For the last few Marvel movies, I've been there opening night. (Iron Man 1 and 2, Hulk, Cap, Thor, Avengers.) But this one... not yet. Still plan to see it, but I don't feel much enthusiasm.
  3. MFS62 wrote: It's getting silly. In his last 60 IP, he's given up 32 hits, has 67Ks and has a .166 ERA. Later That decimal point can't be properly placed.
  4. It will be interesting to see what the Mets 2013 rotation will look like.
  5. Saw it way back when and didn't really like it, but even at the time I was aware that I was watching it at a moment when I really wasn't in the mood for it. So I owe it another chance.
  6. Saw it in the theater with my kids. We all really enjoyed it.
  7. Well, the answer to your final question is... In the Avengers movie: Because there are no X-Men or Fantastic Four in this universe. In the comics: Sometimes you do see that. The Avengers will show up to help out the FF, and Reed will say, "We've got this one, guys." (And for some reason the Avengers back off.) Or sometimes the two teams team up. And sometimes the excuse is that the FF are off on some mission in outer space. (Even if in their own comic that month they're fighting the Ringmaster and his Circus of Crime in Queens.) And sometimes they just ignore this question. There's a certain amount of disbelief that you have to suspend for this kind of stuff. Me, sometimes I can do that and sometimes I can't. For example, in Superman, I was okay with the flying and the x-ray vision and the space capsule from Krypton, but not with him reversing time by flying backwards around the planet.
  8. I admit that if I didn't have a since-childhood affinity and affection for these characters, I probably wouldn't have gone to see the movie. (But I might have watched it when it came to cable.) But I do have that affection, and seeing a movie like this makes me feel like a kid again. And I think that that's the level that it works at, for me.
  9. I rated it an 8.
  10. I anointed him my favorite minor leaguer last summer after seeing him play a game for Binghamton at Reading. Nice to see him make the big team, even if only for a little while. Not sure what his future is if Tejada and Murphy work out and Wright stays (and I hope all three happen!) but that's a concern for some other time.
  11. What position does he play?
  12. Is he a man? Or is he a muppet?
  13. I haven't read the books or seen the movie either, but it sounds to me like it's more of an anti-1% than it is anti-Obama. But I suppose you can read whatever anti- into it that you like.
  14. The review in the Daily News was very good: five stars. I was willing to take my daughter to go see it (she's very eager) but it turns out that she'll be seeing it with some friends this weekend. So I'll wait for it to come to cable.
  15. Finally saw this the other day. I gave it two stars, and I think I was being generous. Lots of action and special effects, but what a lifeless movie. Ryan Reynolds was awful. He wasn't playing Hal Jordan, he was playing Will Farrell.
  16. What about Speed, with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock?
  17. That first link says he may go to Savannah. I had been thinking Kingsport, but Savannah plays a full season. I suppose that if he ends the season in St. Lucie, he'll have done well for himself.
  18. That worm took a nice photo!
  19. Didn't Vincent Chase make this movie a few years ago? Please do not quote any part of my post in reply. Huh? And... oops!
  20. I'm rarely able to have much of an opinion on these things. The only movies I've seen from the entire list are Hugo (with several mentions) and Rise of the Planet of the Apes (with one).
  21. My favorite title sequence is probably the one that opens HBO's True Blood.
  22. What does "putting on the mac" mean? And when did Steve McQueen stop being dead?
  23. I loved it! I was a big fan of the Apes movies when I was a kid, although when I rewatched all of them a few months ago a lot of it wasn't all that good. (Beneath and Battle were especially bad.) But Rise was a lot of fun. I really think the franchise is in good hands, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what comes next.
