  1. Time to wake this thread up!
  2. He was on Oakland's 1973 World Series roster. I think Charlie Finley wanted to replace him on the roster while the Series was in progress due to poor play. I forget the details. I was thinking Edgy was referring to Orlando Hernandez in 2006.
  3. Put me in the category of Franciscofan. I hope he plays his entire contract with the Mets, and if he still has something left when it's done, maybe another year or two. I wasn't aware, until this thread, of the permanent 21 badge on the backs of the caps of the Clemente winner. Pretty cool. Maybe they can put a 21 on the back of his Hall of Fame plaque, if he gets there. Nobody would ever see it once it goes on the wall, but it would be cool nonetheless.
  4. Xzavian is the new Zack.
  5. They should swap leagues with the Astros, to get the cosmos back in alignment. You'd think MLB would prefer to have the state of Texas represented by both leagues, just like Ohio and Florida and New York and Illinois and Missouri. (But not Pennsylvania.)
  6. Zack Wheat. One of my favorite Hall of Famers who I know little about.
  7. It wasn't until 54 years into the expansion era that we had a World Series matchup between two expansion teams. (Mets vs. Royals, 2015) It's now happened three times since then: Nationals/Astros in 2019, Diamondbacks/Rangers in 2023, and now Brewers/Rays in 2026. Significantly*, the 2015 Series is the only one of them that didn't feature at least one team that had changed its name since its inception, and in two of the three, both teams have changed their names. 2019 was the Expos vs. the Colt .45s, 2023 was the Diamondbacks vs. the Senators, and this year, it's the Pilots vs. the Devil Rays. *not really
  8. This might get interesting...
  9. I hate to see a sandwich get wasted. I guess she didn't have any brickbats handy?
  10. Someone is apparently looking for a job in the Trump administration.
  11. I just saw a report saying that Carlos Mendoza will be the new third base coach and infield instructor for the Phillies.
  12. I know Terry Francona too, but didn't know he was in Cincinnati. I would have guessed that Skip Schumaker was still managing the Braves, but I see he's with the Rangers now. Craig Counsell managing the Cubs is something I did know about, but I wouldn't have been able to come up with his name if prompted.
  13. I remember when managers were named Sparky Anderson. Bill Virdon. Tom Lasorda. Tony Larussa. Jim Leyland. Bobby Cox. Dusty Baker. John McNamara. I don't know who most of these guys are. I'm clearly not paying attention anymore!
  14. I wouldn't have been able to name any of the managers, other than the Mets, Yankees, and Phillies. There's a Torey Luvello and a Tony Vitello? Confusing!
  15. At least his name is Schaeffer!
  16. Well, if you wanna be picky, they were arming up for a potential deep run into October, not specifically for the Wild Card Series. But it was also for the initial goal of merely getting to October, and at least they did that. That's more than the 2021 Mets achieved when they traded Crow-Armstrong for Baez.
  17. I'm glad you were able to get that page up. I'm sorry I pulled the rug out from under you last year! Did you ever meet with the new guy at the UMDB? I remember introducing you.
  18. I found this earlier discussion of Front Row Amy:
  19. There are Front Row Amy bobbleheads, if I remember correctly. I first noticed F.R.A. in 2024, and we discussed her here during the Wild Card Series the Mets played in Milwaukee that year.
  20. I would like that. It would test the depth of the teams' starting rotations. (And bullpen too.) You'd see fewer examples of starters in the bullpen and things like that. Let the teams try to win in the postseason the way they won in the regular season.
  21. That's as good a reason as any to root for the Brewers. That, and enough with the Dodgers already!
  22. I think I get what CF is saying. It might have been more special for some (or even many) of the fans to see "World Champion Cleveland Indians" on banners and merchandise. It's been a long time, and now it will never happen. But of course, if the Guardians win the World Series this year, there will be many very happy people.
  23. The Brewers were there once, in 1982, when they lost to the Cardinals.
