  1. I'm starting to think of Brandon Nimmo as Shawn Abner.
  2. ONE DOWN, TWO TO GO! SAY ONE DOWN TWO TO GO!
  3. It's hard to believe that this thread went almost two years without an update.
  4. I gave it six stars. I enjoyed it, but I don't think I'll remember a whole lot about it after a few weeks have gone by. And I don't plan to see it again until I can do so for free, when it's on HBO or EPIX or whatever. The Vision was cool. I really don't like Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. (Bring back Art Carney!) I really don't have much sense of what makes a man attractive, but I'd think that Natasha Romanoff would prefer any of the other guys on the team to Banner. I also suspect that if I didn't know these guys and their stories from decades of reading comic books, that I would have thought this movie was a hot mess.
  5. It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but I remember thinking it was pretty good. (Not sure what an IA card is.) I gave it 3.5 stars. Does your use of the phrase "sat through it" indicate that you didn't enjoy it?
  6. That's what I was thinking too; just retell the origin in a montage. As classic as Spidey's origin is, it doesn't need to be told on the big screen for a third time in 15 years. You'd have to not only have the radioactive spider bite, but you'd also have to establish the relationship with Uncle Ben, and Ben's murder, and Peter's discovery of how his powers work. Or he can start with a "My name is Peter Parker" thing like they do in each episode of Arrow and Flash.
  7. DAN WHEELER???
  8. I think I'd rather watch Nineteen Kids and Counting than any of these Hobbit movies. And I despise Nineteen Kids and Counting!
  9. I'm certain I didn't see ten movies in theaters this year. Those I did see were: Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America, X-Men, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Lucy, and Gone With the Wind. There might be one or two others, but I really think that's it.
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: But it's a good pace for a guy who won't turn 22 until just before opening day. Yeah, but there's a 28th birthday in his future. I think, barring something exceptional happening, we're not likely to see many rookie prospects making Opening Day debuts. That delay-free-agency/delay-arbitration thing seems to be standard practice now, at least with the current Mets management. (I expect many other teams are doing this too?)
  11. I saw Kurt Russell talking about this movie with David Letterman. What's the deal on Matt Franco? Is he Kurt's sister's son?
  12. Just got back from seeing the movie. I gave it three stars. Fun, but forgettable. I'm not that much into sci-fi stories, especially when the action doesn't take place on earth. For me, the fun of these movies is seeing favorite characters from my childhood on the big screen. This movie didn't have that. And the after the credits scene was, well... I guess I shouldn't say anything yet.
  13. Yes. And one of the others is a tree.
  14. Oh, they're definitely going to be in the same universe. I imagine it will all be tied together by the third Avengers movie, if not sooner.
  15. I'll probably see it in the theaters and fairly soon, but I feel the way Namor does; it's the first Marvel movie (from Marvel Studios, anyway) that I have little enthusiasm for. I waited for cable to see the rebooted Amazing Spider-Man, and will probably do the same for its sequel.
  16. I liked it a lot too. I'm really enjoying the current reboot of the Apes franchise. The original five movies, as much as I loved them as a kid, has a lot more bad than good. Beneath and Battle are especially bad. And the second iteration of the franchise, the one-and-done Marky Mark movie, is better forgotten.
  17. Is Centeno still in Vegas? Maybe he'll get demoted.
  18. The other speculation was that Recker would leave the Mets and Teagarden would stay. (I know you don't want to hear this; I'm sorry!)
  19. Kristie Ackert in the Daily News today says that Plawecki will go to Las Vegas when d'Arnaud returns to the Mets.
  20. If he works out, that would free the Mets to trade Travis for a Cy Young winner!
  21. Yeah, that sounds a bit more alarming.
  22. Is it uncommon for a pitcher to leave the game after the seventh inning?
  23. If I was married to Vivian Leigh, I doubt that Danny Kaye would be able to tempt me into infidelity. But maybe that's just me.
  24. I know that it was Donald O'Connor who co-starred with Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain, but there's some part of my subconscious that keeps trying to convince me that it was Danny Kaye. I really haven't seen much of Danny Kaye's work. The only movie of his that I've seen as an adult is White Christmas. I think I saw Walter Mitty and Hans Christian Anderson when I was a kid, but I have little memory of either of them. I seem to remember him as a guest star on TV variety shows, but I'm not even sure of that.
  25. Yeah, the Quicksilver scene was great. It will be interesting to compare this Quicksilver with the one we'll be seeing in Avengers Age of Ultron next year. X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST SPOILER ALERT =#FFBF00]The events of X3 were definitely erased, but it's also possible that X1 and X2 were retconned as well. I guess we're unlikely to ever know for sure. This movie seemed like the happily-ever-after for the group of X-Men that we met in the 2000 movie except, of course, for Wolverine, who, since he exists in both time periods, can easily be integrated with the "First Class" group.
