  1. Yes, Milledge is rising to the occasion, and that's a good thing. I'd LOVE to see him play well enough the rest of the way so that he becomes part of the plan for 2008, allowing the Mets to shed either Green or Alou.
  2. Didn't want this lost on the previous page: Yancy Street Gang wrote: Last Thursday's game against the Reds at Shea will close on Tuesday of this week: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6838
  3. Definitely. Line drives can be caught, and bloops can fall in, and soft grounders can find a hole, but pitchers who give up a lot of line drives are going to have to deal with a lot more baserunners than pitchers who give up bloops and soft grounders.
  4. Yeah, but who goes to church more regularly?
  5. Down. Down. Down. Unchanged. Not the best of news, huh? Gomez's ranking may not have changed, but my first impression of him was a good one. I know he still has some developing to do, but the fact that he's had a bit of success in the big leagues is certainly a positive.

  7. I can do that. Tuesday's game would normally close on Friday anyway, and Wednesday's would close over the weekend. Meanwhile, last Thursday's game against the Reds at Shea will close on Tuesday of this week: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6838

  9. Don't these kinds of lists come out more often than they ought to? It seems there's a new list every few months. Of this group of 100, there are two that I saw for the first time in just the last year or two: The Bridge on the River Kwai and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. I enjoyed them both, but liked Treasure a lot more.
  10. Of the nine photos, the first seven were superfluous. I wonder why they got rid of the 396's though. As Steve points out, there are no ads in their former spots.
  11. Some I'm not sure of, but by my count I've seen 60 of the 100.
  12. It's funny that only 13 guys have pitched more innings than Glavine has, and people are still debating whether or not he's a "Met."

  14. It would be nice for him to do it like Seaver did, with a complete game.

  17. I voted to keep it. It's silly, it's quirky, it's fun, and it's unique.

  19. I would have guessed Gary Carter, but you said the answer was surprising, so I'll try a different veteran: Ray Knight? George Foster is also a possibility, I guess, but his contract was four years old by then, so I would think that Carter was making more than him.
  20. Too bad they already hired an Offensive Invigorator.
  21. ="Tim Brown, Yahoo! Sports"] Mets to name Johnson hitting coach By Tim Brown, Yahoo! Sports July 13, 2007 Howard Johnson will be named hitting coach of the New York Mets on Friday, getting the nod over Rickey Henderson, who will coach first base, baseball sources said. Ninth in the National League in runs after finishing third in the NL last season, the Mets fired hitting coach Rick Down during the All-Star break and interviewed Henderson in San Francisco this week. General manager Omar Minaya decided Friday morning that Johnson, who managed and served as hitting instructor in the Mets organization before being named the parent club's first-base coach before the season, would be best suited to replace Down. Henderson, who last played in 2003, retired with 3,055 hits, a .279 batting average and a .401 on-base percentage. Johnson batted .249 with 228 home runs in a 14-year career that ended in 1995. His best seasons came with the Mets, and he helped them to a World Series title in 1986.
  22. If he's too big, maybe you can find a smaller one that you can bring.
  23. It's not like the other digits have long to live anyway.
