If this flies with the in-laws they can't be all bad!

Hoping the weather turns soon. Cold weather games are better in October.

Going to Game 2, because:

1) Plenty of good seats available
2) It's a Gay Dame and there are so few of those
3) It's our anniversary so we'll celebrate in style with melted ice cream in plastic helmets
4) Build-a-Bear Teddy Giveaway Day!
5) We'll see either deGrom (I get to wear my jersey) or Thor (she gets to wear her jersey)
6) Allows us to have an excuse for missing Passover dinner with her relatives

#6 is the most important reason.

6. How does a day game get you out of dinner?

I'll be thinking of you at the game, and maybe also a plague or two on Molina.

Hopefully not Harv. The missus really hates him.

You're married to JCL?!?

The 15-day forecast, avatar of long-range reliability, has weather in ZIP Code 11368 on March 27 as rainy with a high of 48 degrees. Perhaps it's the harbinger of a warming trend that will manifest itself two afternoons later and stabilize across the first homestand.

But otherwise, March 29 takes place in March, and this March, to date, has been crummy around here.

Callaway confirms the plan is Thor on OD, Jake in Game Two. Should health and nature cooperate, Thor coming in with 30.1 IP the season before will be the lightest load for an OD starter since Johan in 2012 coming off not pitching in MLB at all in 2011. Before that, I'm guessing, it's Randy Jones, 1982, who pitched 59.1 IP in 1981, a year when Randy was injured and the season was halved. Plus I believe he got OD only because postponement due to snow wrecked Bamberger's plans.

dgw should have taken my bet. Syndergaard it is.

Part of me will be disappointed to see the Mets' streak of seven opening day starting pitchers in seven years come to an end, novelty though it is. Part of me will be disappointed to see deGrom not get an honor he seemingly has coming to him.

  1. Wong, 2b
  2. Carpenter, 1b
  3. Ozuna, lf
  4. Pham, cf
  5. Fowler, rf
  6. DeJong, ss
  7. Gyorko, 3b
  8. Molina, c
  9. C. Martinez, sp
  1. Nimmo, cf
  2. Céspedes, lf
  3. Bruce, rf
  4. Frazier, 3b
  5. Gonzalez, 1b
  6. Cabrera, 2b
  7. d'Arnaud, c
  8. Rosario, ss
  9. Syndergaard, sp

That particular batting order for the Cards is certainly up the air. Some projectors have Wong leading off, and others have him batting eighth. Stay tuned!

I wonder if Td'A or Plawecki will end up being a question? Neither has made their mark against Martinez. Travis is 1-6 (single, RBI, and 2 K's) and Plaweck is 0-3. As of today, I'm guessing Travis does get the start? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Little depresses me more than the thought of starting Adrian Gonzalez's corpse at first.

Smith was supposed to play over the weekend, what the heck is going
on with him?

You'd have to think Travis for now. As good as Plawecki has been this spring, Travis has been even better. Both are hitting .333 but Travis is OPS-ing higher.

As for Gonzalez, I am encouraged by the reports on Conforto. We may not have to tolerate him for long. If Nimmo (or Lagares) end up being real, then I see this happening pretty soon:

1. Nimmo CF
2. Conforto RF
3. Cespedes LF
4. Bruce 1B
5. Frazier 3B
6. Cabrera 2B
7. d'arwecki C
8. Rosario SS

The mental image of Jay Bruce wearing a first baseman glove as a first choice gives the first thought some serious competish.

No corpses. No defensively challenged corner outfielders playing out of position.

Look, if you're going to be this picky I'm not sure I can help you.

Same dudes, different order. Sorry, Kolten Wong.

Necromancy aside, it looks like Gonzalez will be the first baseman.

sure it's all melted now. if not the 60 degree weather yesterday all the hot air the media invitees were blowing over the new food and beer.

NOAA long-range forecast for Corona (worth a hill of used balls) Thursday -
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57.

Indeed, I'm not complaining. High 30's with 25 mph winds are not good
for my aging bones any more.
