Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) So I'm selling these signs that say "Cespedes"...No really, 3 years per Heyman. Opt out after year 1.Left money on the table from multiple teams. Crazy. Edited January 23, 2016 by Guest

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 $27.5 million for year one. Glad it got done, but where'd the money come from?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Valadius wrote:$27.5 million for year one.... [W]here'd the money come from? The Mets are probably gonna hafta salary dump Granderson for a minor leaguer and two bags of balls to make room for Yo's contract.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Author Posted January 23, 2016 How about Washington? Offered more money for Zobrist, Heyward and Cespedes and were jilted each time. Maybe they need a better pick up line.Holy crap. It will be fascinating to hear how all of this went down.On SNY, they are saying this is will be the first time a team ended up winning a negotiation with a star player when that team never really wanted him in the first place. Wilmer cries when he thinks he's traded. Wheeler calls Alderson and asks to stay. And Cespedes leaves millions on the table to come back. Something special going on here.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I don't even give a shit if this somehow goes south. The Mets made THE BIG move!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 We're putting the band back together!
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 You do know that we're going to wake up tomorrow morning and find out that this isn't real and that we've instead signed Carlos Gomez, right?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 There are worse morning-after realizations than Carlos Gomez, I guess.John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote:Who goes away?Initially, Eric Campbell.De Aza drops from the rotation and becomes a bench player.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Author Posted January 23, 2016 And you know what? Big fucking thumbs up to Yoenis Cespedes. Huge. Every superstar claims it wasn't about the money at their press conference. Cespedes may be the first to actually mean it.Fucking awesome. I may be a bit drunk and giddy now, but for me, Cespedes joins Wilmer on the "Guys who will always be good in my book" list.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Smart move all around. Cespedes may be setting himself up for a monster deal if he has a star 2016 and the NL adopts the DH for 2017. If the Nats signed Cespedes, they'd work out their OF logjam for one season only, and would then likely have a star DH for the year after. Plus they're the team the Mets simply have to beat, it would appear. So the Mets improve and simultaneously strike a preemptive.

What gave away that he believes in himself? The batmobile or the custom walk-up song?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 It's been a few crazy Cespe-days. This is going to be one of those Cespe-nights. Really trying to stay up until the Mets confirm this baby, but I'm guessing official confirmation won't be coming forthwith.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 And look, the Mets are already making their money back![fimg=800:3p57ljgj]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DIBPifFnqb8/VqMOPfoaF9I/AAAAAAAAkrs/ci8oyrE-tgI/s1280-Ic42/Already.png[/fimg:3p57ljgj]

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Great news. Plus: Washington doesn't get him.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 HO. LEE. SHIT.I'm just getting this news now. I woke up, fed the cats, and then turned on the computer to see the latest weather forecast, but decided first to see if there was any Cespedes news.I am absolutely stunned. I wasn't expecting this at all. This is fantastic.
