Guest Mets Willets Point Guests Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Which team do you most want to win the 2014 World Series?
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Took Pirates, but could just easily go with KC. As unlikely a match up this is for a World Series con-test I would watch every pitch with great interest. Some other match ups, not so much.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Really as long as it's not the Nats. Not really feeling the Cardinals either.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Generally prefer to see teams that have not sniffed a WS in many moons -- KC, Baltimore, Pittsburgh.Fuck the Nats and fuck the Cards.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 The A's; but any of the Wild Card play-in qualifiers, because in my mind I suppose, that'll show how wrong it is to allow so many baseball teams to qualify for the playoffs.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I don't think anyone is going to get that message. Someday a third-place team will win the World Series, and few people will care.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 A's, Royals, or Pittsburgh , voted for Oakland though.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I really don't understand all of the hate for the Nationals. They are to me, easily the most benign of our division foes. They have committed no major atrocities towards our fanbase or team, other than winning a disproportionate number of games. I understand the douchebag factor (Werth, Harper) but they've got a long way to go until they are become nearly as loathsome as the Phillies, Braves or Marlins. That said, I'm still rooting for Pittsburgh.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I think that the Marlins new stadium, uniforms, and total roster turnover erases their old douchebag image. They get a clean slate with their re-branding.Florida Marlins = dicks.Miami Marlins = cool.

Unless they are somehow douchebags in the way they are beating you; but I don't see that having happened.

Am I supposed to tip my hat to the Nats and be all "oh, it's alright, you guys were just better?" cause, fuck that. it's not like they're playing the Yankees. screw 'em.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Well, to a certain extent, familiarity does breed contempt. But I don't really see any teams in this post-season that I would root against, other than St. Louis.A Pirates-Royals World Series would be nice. (It sounds like a strange matchup, but the two teams did win pennants in consecutive years back in 1979 and 1980.) That said, I'm not really rooting for anyone. If the Mets aren't in it (and they usually are not) I pretty much tune out the post-season.

I know I used to have that channel but I pared back on my cable recently,I imagine quite a few people do not have it.

No loathing for Washington. And I can support them as underdogs because the franchise has never won a World Series, nor a pennant. They're currently third on my list of teams I'd like to see win the World Series this year after Pittsburgh and Kansas City. Now in future years if they have a title or two under their belts AND the Mets are actually competitive AND the Nationals keep eliminating the Mets, then I'll totally be against them.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 Loathesome is as loathsome does. I got little phil ill will. What did they ever do to me, 'cept play good ball when I'd rather the Mets did? They had a nice run, but they earned it and did it around a home-grown core. Wish they beat the Yankees a few more times, but that's too bad.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I don't hate any of the division rivals. I'm supposed to blame them because the Mets can't finish in first more than once in 26 years? I know where to direct the loathing.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 i root for the Billy Beane's Athletics, so i don't have to hear morons talk about the fact that Oakland's failure to win a championship somehow "disproves" the efficacy of quantitative statistical analysis.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 I reject the notion that I shouldn't hate the Nats or division rivals because I should instead hate the Mets cause they sucked. I actually enjoy my team.Screw 'em all. From #natitude right down to fire sales and lifetime contracts for aging slugging first basemen and overrated familiar outfielders.

Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted September 30, 2014 Posted September 30, 2014 How about a little love for Motown and the Detroit Tigers! The Mets won a World Series more recently, with Tigers not winning a World Series since the Bless You Boys team of 1984. It's our turn!Detroit is the Comeback City in the Comeback State! Pluses: You are guaranteed to see Kate Upton in the stands when Verlander pitches.Max Scherzer has different-colored eyes -- look it up -- and went to the University of Missouri.Did you know that Detroit's downtown residential occupancy rate is now above 90 percent? It's the hip place to live! The Tigers take the field to Kiss' "Detroit Rock City!"Sometimes state leaders are asked to throw out opening pitches or attend their games, and their staff members need to be nearby to handle the press.Curtis Granderson is a former Tiger, and we like him!Miggy!Tigers DH and sometimes catcher Victor Martinez wears No. 41, just like Tom Seaver did!Tigers fans hate the Yankees. Really. No love for them at all.The old Tiger Stadium field is still there, and you can go play catch and run the bases. The Tigers have no alternate jerseys, though they sometimes appear as Los Tigres and the Detroit Stars.Prince Fielder? No longer on the team.Michiganders are happy people and they are even happier when the Tigers are in the World Series. Good things happen when Michiganders are very happy in the mid to late fall. Really good things.Minuses:None! Nothing bad happens when the Tigers are in the World Series. There is room on this bandwagon! Come aboard!
