No way, because then they'll wind up being named after some crappy Zebra song.

Whoa. The Houston Take Your Fingers From My Hairs.

Most of the real Texas icons -- Cowboys, Rangers, Stars -- are already taken. The train motif is really cool, but I don't know of anything short enough for a team name. One of the high school teams here is The Railroadmen, which is too long for sure. The Gary minor league team has a train theme -- the Rail Cats, because you have have a stupid animal mascot in the minors.

I bet they keep Astros.

Well, sure. Who would want to admit to being from New Jersey?

I don't mind being from Jersey, I just want to make sure they know it's NY Jersey, not Philly Jersey. ew.

So where's the New Jersey Jersey?

I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.

Like that lol.....(Sussex County)

the real new jersey jersey can be found north of 78, and west of 287. i would even argue that the eastern and southern bouandaries could extend to the parkway and route 1, respectively, but no farther. if you're south of 1 you're in the no man's land of the turnpike corridor, and then you're into the philly-infused areas. up north, well, hudson, essex, and bergen counties are close enough to the city that you could refer to yourself as being from that area, but really, once you start to climb first mountain, you've gone far enough to no longer just be across the bridge.

and lets please not confuse the jersey shore with new jersey. ever.

Sael of the City of Houston

On Monday February 17, 1840 at the regular City Council meeting a resolution was passed authorizing Mayor Charles Bigelow "to procure a seal to be styled, the seal for the City of Houston, Texas."

Dr. Francis Moore, Jr. was a state senator and former mayor of Houston. It was he who had the original seal designed. The top half of the seal bore the words, "City of Houston." The bottom half was originally empty. Dr. Moore was paid $50 for the seal, and "his honor the Mayor, caused the word 'Texas' to be cut on said seal."

The center of the seal bears "The Lone Star, symbol of the newborn nation of the west...... the 'Noble locomotive', heralding Houston's spirit of progress; the humble plow, symbol of the agricultural empire of Texas, from which Houston would draw her wealth - by the iron rails."

The Houston Locomotives?
The Houston Engineers?
The Houston Conductors?
The Houston Cabooses?

Help me out here...

The Locos (has a Spanish double meaning, which is cool)
The Railers (phallic, very intimidating)
The Spikers (very phallic, almost philthy)
The Spikes (another double meaning, referencing the rail industry as well as baseball shoes)

Yeah, get it right. The real New Jersey is an amalgam of The Sopranos, Charles in Charge, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force, with a lumpy helping of Stand by Your Man, the short lived but visceral Rosie O'Donnell/Melissa Gilbert FOX vehicle.

Well the strip club on 17 is called Satin Dolls, home of the original bada bing which i'm told is from the Sopranos. i drive by it frequently.

it's right on route 17S like 2 miles away, so anytime I want to go anywhere south unless i can take the parkway in which case I bail earlier. But it's on the way to the Turnpike, to Velocity 17, to Sweet Avenue Bake Shop, and Giants stadium. I've never been inside though.

MLB Leaks New Astros Logo, Inexplicably Blames Hurricane Sandy

The Astros are headed to the AL next year, and with a new league comes a new looka blue and orange rebranding (because the Mets are totally the franchise you want to evoke) and a lone star logo. We know all this because it has leaked repeatedly in the last few days. First, it was merchandise at local sporting goods stores. Then it was Astros-branded iPhone cases sold online. MLB offered a public apology to the team for the leaks, and for ruining their official launch party this coming Friday.

Then they went and leaked them again, on the Astros official website. Go to the roster page, and after youre done marveling at how the Stros dont have a single marketable player, click on anyone and their profile shot shows them in the new duds.

We have to presume this is part of an official-unofficial rollout, staged leaks to build buzz. (Is it working? Did you know about these new unis until just now?) The alternative is pure incompetence, with a truly bizarre explanation. An @MLB tweet from this morning:

MLB Advanced Media, in advance of super-storm Sandy, inadvertently posted photos of players in their new uniforms on @Astros.com bio pages.

Would really love to know what one has to do with the other. I guess it was very important that East Coasters saw those hot new unis before they lost power.

Just can't get enough of that Gawker Media Brand Snark. Logo looks great! Nothing to do with the Mets.

That's some aggressive retro, Houston. I'm not sure how the striped-side alternate will look and play but I like the idea.

5 different uniforms? sigh.
whatever happened to home whites and road greys?

They also look a little too close to the Orioles unis, no?
