"was I someone's unwanted asshole?" would be a great sig line.

It's important to have at least one asshole, I've always said.

Caught myself lurking when I discovered JCL was kindly talking up the then-new FAFIF. Then I asked myself, "Why am I lurking?"

Good people post here.

We should do more of these. Pay it forward, man.

Interesting that, after five straight division championships, Philadelphia is only just barely ahead of Atlanta over the 10 years from 2002-2011.

Those archives are hilarious. There is a thread (if you search for "more nominations") that should or should not have been deleted. It is even brought up in the thread that it should be deleted. I'm glad it is preserved as a testament to the beginning of the Pool.

The best quote IMO from the thread comes from Willets who said, "I have this nervous feeling that somewhere in cyberspace there's a third, even more exclusive forum where people gather to guffaw about the Crane Pool forumites..." Priceless.

Going back and looking at those colors and pictures and fonts...it really made me want a cigarette. I used to chain smoke while reading the Pool.

i still think y'all sent teh wrong dope an invite.

i mean, here y'all were setting up a message board for intelligent mets fans, and i can neither depress a shift key nor spell "teh" with fewer than three tries.

I read about this place in a G-FAFIF column as well. And it was during a time when I needed to be able to commiserate with other Mets fans who were depressed.

To be fair, we've made it very difficult for them to follow up.

And solving that is still on our to-do list!

clicking on register on the login page doesn't do anything.

clicking register on the top leads to a question about Mr. Wright, which when answered does not lead to registration or anything helpful.

so yeah..

At this point, wouldn't it be a good placeholder to make both those links direct to a page/post taht says "please email "*some guy** with the username you want"?

Bizarre, ain't it?

I thought I had left this thing in better condition than that! I'll have to take a fresh look.

Last time I tried it, answering the Mr. Wright question correctly got you registered, but unable to post.

Now, well, it's simply a way to make you feel good about your ability to answer a basic question.

Not that that's without value, but it falls quite a bit short of the mark.

Sheesh.

thus explaining my original invite, back in the halcyon days of our founding.

i still have some of THE BARD'S poetry from my battles with his MOFOian foes, like Paulie Cee and Newman. I will see if he'll look up from his mead long enough to permit a reprint or 2.

in celebration of our anniversary, The Bard offers these poetical blasts from our MOFO past:

He called himself Newman
And like the albumen
You can find in the white of an egg,
He was snotty and runny,
And smelled kinda funny,
An anus you could fill with a keg.

There once was a poster named Ambla
As well-liked as a member of NAMBLA
With nary a friend,
He stood alone till the end,
With the nerves of a riverboat gambla

There once was a lady, Ms. Met
As in love as a lady could get
She wanted Mikes booty
And so thought it her duty
To dream of his butt, soaking wet!

YGB was his tag
and posting his bag
as he jousted with Metfans illogical

He fought with Ms. Met
Her goat he did get
She found his attitude rude, pedagogical

They swashed and they buckled
as the Forum all chuckled
at their badinage, crude and rhetorical

Ms. Met called for peace
hoped the fighting would cease
trumpeting truce that was truly historical

And so all waited reply
YGB's taunting to fly
would it be something mean, allegorical?

Or would he just be
a "gentlemen", he
Creating peace that was not metaphorical

There once was a flamer named Winston
who clearly had not gone to Princeton
both foul and moronic
his posts were a tonic
composed of the feces he rinsed in

Like Orwell's Winston of Yore
from his book, "1984"
Hell be tied to a chair,
not to go anywhere,
so the rats could eat his faceful of gore

or
how about a haiku?

locked in a basement
made his view of the world quite
subterranean

Paulie Cee spouted bile
in order to rile
up those whom he deemed as
Inferior

But his mewling, instead
stayed inside his head
so the only one reamed was
Interior

Paulie carried Vendetta
Like a Baretta
To shoot at all those he abhorred

He acted the prankster
But was merely a gangster
And on us derision he poured

His many disguises
He employed to get rises
Out of those whose oxen hed gored

And when he finally started shooting
Some fools started rooting
But most folks just walked away, bored.

There once was a guy, Paulie Cee
Whose persona comprised a plurality
he preached his religion
with nary a smidgeon
of intellect, or even morality

haikus for Paulie:

Negativity
that dwells inside his spirit
shouts, obscuring thought

Politics aside
Fascist Fundamentalists?
Not my cup of tea.

ah yeah.

For background Joelmon was a poster who was very angry at the Mets for failing to sign A-Rod; really angry at Met fans whom he thought would join his side if they only paid more attention; and really really angry at me for making fun of him. He never realized it was his awful writing style I was making fun of, not his ideas, necessarily.

We Miss You, Dave

That's like going to your old boss
Who fired you
And doesn't want you at his picnic,
And you don't go,
And the employees are like
"So, why is dave not here?"

SMART LOGIC

But I tell that here and get chewed out,
It's called LOGIC,
He made a SMART business decision,
But it HURT our team.
Anybody that disagreed with me has YELLED at me
More than documented otherwise

Ode To A Run-On Sentence

Because if they feel they can compete like they did in the 2000 offseasn
when they saw the @#%$ crush their spirits
and did NOTHING to improve
with a full hearted 'win at all costs' attitude
that the @#%$ had,
then what makes us think fred,
who admitted he cannot profit til postseason,
would BLOW more $ for a team
that shows 'they can compete'
the way they are?

Challenge Me, Idiots

And to any idiot that asks why he's not a met,
you tell me how one legally joins a team without permission
when 4th day into free agency they do a press conference
to lock you out,
when it takes WEEKS to iron out a deal
Wake up and give me something, let's see QUOTES
Challenge me

On Courage

If they get destroyed,
it shatters that myth and can cost them $ in ticket sales

If they fight strong,
they can sit back and not invest as much.

She Sang A Sad, Angry Song

F you
You idiots never knew guys like me
When i went to shea in the early 90's
Mid 90's
And my grandma SANG at shea

And I knew of 'gen k' 2 years before
Some of you 'fans' knew of them
I support our farm
You never met me

Who Can You Trust?

Don't believe me.
Why not get Sele? What was our excuse?
He was told to be an innings guy,
Find the quote where sp said
"He is here due to his natural ability
to help us win a ring"

Life And How To Live It

don't address problems and solve them with a plan,
and come to terms with failure.
Insult hall of famers,
ignore your farm,
don't have a plan,
deny your problems,
panic,
and make quick fixes
and believe!

Now I Get It

It's BS or if it IS true, they have not confirmed it
Except for the invisible newspapers this clown listens to
Who is likely doing this due to the philly board

Why would I say that?

So This Is Christmas

oy, vey
Fans were jumping up and down like it was x-mas,
sorry kiddies,
mommy only got you underwear,
no Nintendo or new bike for you

Tied With Atlanta

And if it's $, you can't ask for Giambi,
he'll cost what arod would have asked for,
only texas offered $250m, the OWNER admitted it,
it was 2x atl's deal, which they would have had with a no trade clause, but they don't offer those to any atlanta based franchise tied with atlanta
Seriously, their GM and atl fans said so
$126m/7 years was the deal
How do you know? They NEVER talked $

* * *
It Was Reported More Than Once

Hey, i don't make this up
It was reported more than once,
Wilpon isn't stupid enough
To let sp spend more on a season
Where, even though the fans might believe,
mgmt isn't stupid,
like sp said,
they cannot profit til postseason,
so just put a freeze on spending
And reload next year.

* * *
Of That And They And Me

If that were available and they said no,
which would clear salary for giambi (Heh)
and give us a stud young left handed hitter,
my god, if we say no to that
(Not a real deal)
I'd shoot myself

To A Picklehead

I have fun
Kiss my ass
if you don't like how I talk or write you picklehead,
I care less.
Now email me
you dick

This Is A Business

this is a business.
Any player would say that,
And they do.

GREAT LOGIC

GO AHEAD, GOOD LUCK,
I'm SURE he'd say "GREAT IDEA,
I care about winning more than making $ on my investment
Where I poured in MILLIONS to PROFIT
(Business, get it?)
And owe $1/3 Billion
To make more over time with a cash cow stadium
I still CANNOT afford but DESIRE,
I paid this $ JUST to win, not profit,
GREAT LOGIC

I Talked About It

I showed one article fans ignored and goofed on,
I talked about lupica,
talked about espn confirming it,
talked about the owner
admitting arod didn't consider texas til the end,
even arod in his conference said that

Giant Squidlike Creature arrived in the 2001-2002 offseason when the Mets could have signed Squid for a song. Squid returned the following offseason but was still shown no respect. So Squid became the forum archivist. Squid is versatile like that.
