The 2011 New York Mets

May, June and July featured the most enjoyable Mets baseball I have experienced since 2006.

The rest of the season was mostly "blah".

Hats off to Reyes and Beltran, two of the greatest Mets to ever wear the blue and orange. They both had great seasons and I'll miss Jose if he doesn't come back.

Get well Ike, Murph and Johan. I hope you're all ready for Opening Day 2012.

Loved the youth movement of Tejada, Duda, Turner, and Thole. With other talent still to come in the minors, there's something to look forward to.

Here's to a helathly and productive offseason that will give us even more hope for 2012 and beyond.

Also, thanks to the CPF, who as always gives me an outlet to use so I can root along with other fans of my team. It means a lot to a guy who is so far away from the local fanbase.

The Detroit and Texas road swing was kind of awesome. A Grand Slam! Two of them!
As was the 4-game sweep of the Reds in Cincy where Murphy hit like .700 for the series.

Tejada and Duda developing into real big league ball players was cool, too.

The last four weeks of awful in-game work by Terry mars what I thought was a good first season for him.

1. June 29 at Detroit
Mets 16, Tigers 9
Second straight day of putting a hurting on the Tigers' pitchers. Hairston three-run triple in the first started things off well.

2. August 26 vs. Atlanta
Mets 6, Braves 0
Capuano's 2-hit, 13k shutout, the finest pitching performance (by Game Score) of the 2011 MLB season.

3. June 12 at Pittsburgh
Mets 7, Pirates 0
Another good Capuano start; Pirates lose argument on disputed replay, and then Mets go off, with homers from Hairston and Reyes in the 9th to cap things off.

4. May 6 vs. Dodgers
Mets 6, Dodgers 3
Two triples from Reyes in 1 game!

5. August 9 vs. Padres
Mets 5, Padres 4
Mets score 3 in the 8th off the Padre bullpen to take the lead.

I feel bad because I've hardly watched baseball at all this season. I just don't feel motivated to commit the time to watching the games, learning about all the players, tracking the stats and standings, and all those other things I used to enjoy. I think I have to come to terms with the fact that I'm just not a baseball fan anymore.

And I don't think this is because the Mets were a bad team this season either. I've watched bad teams before. And I used to follow the Red Sox a lot as well but even when they were playing well this season I hardly noticed them.

I think the anger just turns me off. I come to the Crane Pool and see people posting angry things about the Mets. I hear people in Boston constantly angry about the Sox. I just can't muster the energy to be angry about baseball.

So I guess that's it. I probably won't watch baseball anymore. I'm done. And this makes me sad.

I enjoyed the season until the Jets season started, which coincided with the end of relevance for the 2011 Mets. So there you go. I'll be back in 2012.

having a young son certainly has given me a multitude of other things to do other than watch the Mets, if not for this place I might not have cared one iota about this team this season.

the biggest regret i have of this season is that i never quite got a chance to bring minimm out to citi. i'd hoped to do it in september, but as the month approached, it fairly well conspired against me. next year. definitely next year.

I'm still watching, but not as frequently as I did in previous years, and way less than I did when I was significantly younger.

I'm with Willets in that the anger is a turnoff to me too. I don't hear it on WFAN anymore, but I do see it here. I don't get the "Fuck David Wright" comments when he bumbles a ground ball. Or "Fuck Ike Davis" when he goes on the disabled list. Or the calls to assassinate players who are taking up a precious roster spot. (Thinking of 2010 Oliver Perez here.)

Geez, it's a game. An entertainment. A diversion.

I think anger is wasted also. I'm disappointed in some decisions and I advocate for others.

Having little ones the last few years--especially a now-eight-year-old who is cuckoo for baseball and the Mets--has actually made me watch more than I did before.

Back to the 2011 Mets...Reyes' stretch before his first DL stint made the Mets absolute Must-See-TV. I don't think I followed a Met that closely--meaning, really, I have to get to a TV to see what Jose does next--since Doc's starts in 1985.

Ultimately, Braun's 0 for 4 made it a moot point. It was classless, but it wouldn't have made a difference if Reyes had stayed for a couple more ABs.

I enjoyed the Mets pretty much all but September. Watched very little the last month as I flipped to College Football, Sons of Anarchy & Breaking Bad.

To Jose Reyes..I have to believe you care more about your friends at your Ryan Braun viewing party then people who paid a good buck to primarily see you, and see you quit in the first inning.

Lame... Get the money Jose..run for it!

Still, it was fun along the way. I, too, miss baseball already.

If there is a heaven, I picture it to be a place where I can play baseball every day with my kids, then come home, relax and watch a game at night. No off-days, All-Star breaks, rainouts or off-seasons.
