Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Oh, that's no good. If Artie doesn't have her late-morning Maker's Mark, then naptime's fouled. We'll find a workaround.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Don't be a slave to nap-time!This has been a public service announcement.

Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 1/29 is a no go for me - my hiking club has a board meeting that day. Darryl's Sports Bar in Douglaston.Or, as we Jerseyites like to call it, "the butt end of nowhere." But I'm good for a road trip any weekend in March - see you then at Strawberry's.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Out for 1/29, in for March. I'll nominate 3/13, as it's nice and close to my birthday, for Darryl's. Less likely to conflict with squatters looking for college basketball action. I'll volunteer to coordinate the reservation as well, unless JCL is already on it.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 March sounds good if largely unknowable from here. January's a maybe. And what else has Darryl got to do anyway?

Thanks for not picking the 3/6 ... my pedicure girlhas a rigid schedule through June already.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 3/13 is good here too. The SABR meeting is the weekend before, I believe.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2010 Posted December 31, 2010 like 3/20 better but this works.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I'll be up for the Screaming Jayhawkings concert the previous weekend. I don't know that I can swing that two weeks in a row.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Come to think of it, can we toss Ollie from a tall building?Or just for the symbolisim of it, Oliver Perez baseball cards? That could be fun!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 What happened in Tuscon the other day makes me wonder if it's inevitable that some crazed fan won't some day try to assassinate an unpopular local athlete. The sports rhetoric on the Internet and on the radio (and in the ballpark) can be every bit as bad, if not worse, as what we get from Washington.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Geez, way to turn that around Ben!I agree it is troubling, but the shooter was in league with the likes that would shoot an entertainer because of a mental unbalance and a need to be "famous" himself. I'd think those types don't need the constant yapping on internet communities and sports radio call in chatter to fuel their desire to do whatever it is they think they "have to do." I mean He Who Shall Not Be Named didn't need some snarky Twitter feed or some internet fourm to feed into his need to kill John Lennon.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 No, but in trying to look at the broad effect should mean looking beyond a single case.It certainly seems to me that when the mainstream moves toward the fringes in any cultural experession --- or when the media over-covers the fringes to make them seem more mainstream --- what previously were the fringier elements move even further beyond the pale. When everybody is getting a tattoo, the guy who previously would have been proud of his bicep tat gets a full sleeve, and the guy who previously would have gotten a full sleeve is hard at work at inking up his whole torso. Shit like that.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Also, when everyone sounds as crazy as you are (even if they really aren't) it can validate your feelings and make your insane actions seem more reasonable. And that can be the tipping point between thoughts and action. How about we do our part by not calling for the assassination of any Mets*, even in jest?*Or anyone else!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Yeah, that's a pretty solid way of putting it.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 Talking up my ideas to put Ollie Perez to work outside of a pitching context doesn't amp up the coarseness-level, does it? (See: "Ollie Rides a _____")
