bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Well deserved Derek! I'm sure that it has nothing to do with your aura or reputation. And only 3 MFYs out of 9! What were the voters thinking at the other six positions?http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20101109&content_id=16041500&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlbhttp://espn.go.com/blog/SweetSpot/post/_/id/6238/gold-glove-results-mixed-as-usual
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Amazing!Even his fans are admitting by this point that his defense has slipped and the only questions that remain about position change is when and where not if.Elvis Andrus might have to wait until Jeter dies because he may still be winning these things years after his retirement.I have no problem with any of the other AL picksC - Mauer1B - Teixeira2B - Cano3B - LongoriaOF - Crawford, Suzuki, GutierrezP - Buehrle
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Holy hell, that's fuckin' insane. Admittedly, he only made six errors this year, but holy hell.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I think it's great that he cares so much about the game's history. I assume he won this Gold Glove by placing a winning bid at an auction of Vic Power's estate. Correct?

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 The Gold Gloves are almost never handed out on defensive merit. Transparency, please!
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 gold gloves are very much an offensive award.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Yabbut... Jeter kinda sucked this year with the bat, too.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Baseball Reference has a fielding statistic called "Total Zone Total Fielding Runs Above Average" which is a combination statistic that measures the number of runs above or below average the player was worth based on the number of plays made. That statistic suggests that Franklin Gutierrez was 15 runs above average for AL centerfielders, which was best among all players that played there full-time in 2010.Same statistic has Jeter at 10 runs below average for AL shortstops. That would be LAST among all players at shortstop in the AL.

This was tuchus licking of the highest (or is it lowest?) magnitude.Later
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Rob Neyer had this to say on ESPN regarding Jeter winning a Gold Glove for 2010."It's his fifth, which means he's now won at least four more Gold Gloves than he's deserved."
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Boomer and Carton on WFAN absolutely embarassing themselves this morning with their ignorant defense of Jeter's win. "He had the best fielding percentage and the fewest errors." That's an exact quote from Carton. They also threw in a complaint about the "bloggers" who worry about range, etc.

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I know, shame on me for even listening. But I was hoping someone, anyone, would call in and confront them.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Let 'em go.Really, if folks want to inflate the notion of what Jeter is accomplishing with his glove, bat, grace, and gentle mannerisms, and even give him awards for it, perhaps we should stand back and let them. It only inflates the price of his contract and extends the length of time they're going to foolishly stick with him.Seriously, imagine the Yankees with A-Rod at short and $19 million worth of athlete at third base. How many championships has he cost them already? Two?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Amazinly, the Snooze made the Jeter Injustice the back-page story today. FOOLS GOLDThe problem is the article is a typical wishywashy John Harper piece, focusing on the voting process and lacking the courage to come out and say what a joke it was.
