Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I give up a few times every year, but after yesterday's game was the first time I'd officially given up in 2010. I've supported these guys through one cockpunch after another but feel as a fan I'm now drifting to that realm where I want them to get what they deserve, not what I want for them.Sorry to be such a wet blanket. I thought for sure the Mets would be playing better by now but they're not and they broke me.I give up.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 In my experience, give-ups are typcially followed by just enough teasing to get you back in.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 You know you want to believe in us, big boy.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Unfortunately, yes. They'll get five out of six this week at home so we're all excited about going down to play the Braves and Phillies, at which point they'll lose five out of six again.Eff you, Mets. Eff you.
Guest Kong76 Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I hate to have to break out the shot glasses in July, but drink up boys and girls ...
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 That is pretty much the way I feel right now. I was afraid I was the only one that was losing faith in the teams chances to seriously contend for a spot in the post-season. I hold out hope that the team will start hitting again, but I fully expect that Jerry will kill most potential rallies by bunting repeatedly.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 fuck them. fuck them all. Fuck them all, repeatedly.Fuck them all, repeatedly, with a chain saw.FUCK THEM ALL, REPEATEDLY, WITH A CHAIN SAW, THEN DRAG THEM BEHIND A PINTO UNTIL IT BURSTS INTO FLAMES AND PULLS THEIR FLAMING CARCASES OVER A CLIFF INTO THE BOTTOMLESS ABYSS WHERE RESIDES MY FANDOM...Thank you and good night.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Wait, are we talking playoffs?Well, oh, yeah. That's not bloody likely.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I'm talking World Series baby!Y'all were all jumping ship during the Mets' last slump in May.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Slap! Slap!Give Up?You can't give up!Did we give up when the Germans attacked Pearl Harbor? These are the New York Mets. The Mets of You Gotta' Believe.OK, so right now they couldn't score with a passed out hooker. But they are professional baseball players. Its a slump. All teams have them. Now they're coming home.Welcome them.Love them.Root for them. After all, they are our New York Mets. And don't you ever forget it.Later
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 2010 has been a rollercoaster, but when they have played well, they have exceeded any expectation I had for them in March.A game over .500 in late July is too soon for me to "give up". I'll still be surprised if they actually pull anything off this season, but I think they have a couple nice streaks left in them...which is enough for me to keep watching.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 As Bob Murphy used to say, "When the Mets start hitting again -- and they will..."
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I'll give up when the season ends. Till then, I'll keep believing.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 It's going to be an awfully long offseason. Who knew the offseason effectively started at the All Star Break?Just wait 'til next year.
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I'm just going to enjoy each game as it comes. Having Gary, Keith and Ron to listen to every game certainly makes it more enjoyable...

Got a very telling week coming up though, after that all the stress may be off.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 C'mon, in 1951 the Giants trailed by 13 1/2 games on August 11.The 1969 Mets were behind by 9 1/2 games on August 14.This team has already had TWO 8-game winning streaks and I don't think we've seen the best of what they can do yetAre you going to be like Yankee fans and say "O this team is dominating everything therefore they suck and they're worthy of my scorn!" Are you going to be like THOSE pussies?!?!?! Or are you going to be a fucking METS fan! You're made of stronger stuff. Let your balls drop down in your scrotum and stand proud!LET'S GO METS!
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I'm not any more 'quitty' today than when I wrote this. They've gpt a chance this week to force their way back into things. Unlikely? Sure. CAHNfidence? In the toilet. But if they're gonna make it, it starts here. Lgm ygb yyy bbb
