F Stasberg!

That was a curious editorial decision. Backpages of the Pest (IKE CREAM!) and Snoozeday (Mike And Ike) were Ike-intensive but kind of lame.

Strasburg will only debut once. Davis will be awesome repeatedly (presumptuous nature of that statement notwithstanding).

And the other thing you discover by watching him is that all of his pitches are strikes, the ones called balls are merely the ones the umps miss.
Or at least that's the world according to Nats color man Rob Dibble.

THE Rob Dibble?
The Wild Man Rob Dibble who averaged 4.5 BB per 9 IP during his career?
I know he knows fastballs.
But how does he know what a strike is, or should be?

Dibble's just a homer-announcer-extraordinaire.
It's not just Strasburg, all Washington pitchers are cruelly deprived of strikes by umpires.
And they're not just missed calls, they're intentionally bad calls because the umps are specifically biased against the Nationals.
And when the tracking-box thing backs him up he cites it as evidence, and when it doesn't back him up he just simply ignores it.

you should listen to dibble on the mets-nats games. this guy seems to hate the mets, and roots hard against us more so than any other team... it's odd.

Especially when Philadelphia is much closer by and so much easier to hate.

Here's a report from a friend who is a Nats fan:

I was there (right behind the plate no less).

It was awesome.

My head exploded.

The End

I expect to get more details when he sobers up.

I can't help but remember Mark Prior on May 22nd 2002.
IP H R BB SO
6 4 2 2 10

against another incarnation of the pirates

The more recent one I was thinking of is Cincy's Johnny Cueto, who went 7 IP, giving up only a single solo HR to Justin Upton, no walks and 10 K against the D-Backs opening week 2008.

looks like he will miss the Mets when they go there July 1st...that according to a sked I saw in the Snooze

If the Nationals pitch him every 5th day, yes, the Mets will miss him July 1, 2, 3, and 4. But if the Nationals pitch him every 5th day, as Boswell says they will, then he'll pitch on July 3.

You said the exact same thing twice here.

I have tickets for the July 4th matinee in D.C. Hopefully he's not pitching and I can see the Mets wail on some crumbum instead.

Dude, your Gwreck research department produced that fact last month :)

In all seriousness, I agree with Fman that it's probably better to miss him and just get the the crappier pitchers instead but part of me also wants the Mets to be the one to deliver his first whooping of the season.

Oops. E, me. I've corrected it, above.

Oh, screw that. By then, I want us to deliver his LAST whooping of the season, to the point where they realize he's not ready yet. I don't want him to be 5-0, 1.80 when he gets to us; I want 1-4, 6.80.

Nah, I have no problem if he wants to shut down the rest of the division. Just don't think you can get away with the 100-MPH fastball and 96-MPH slider (really?) junk against the Mets.

On TBS right NOW!: The 'Burg retires the Tribe 1-2-3 to begin his first road start ever. Buck Martinez's hair, I swear, is a dead ringer for the George Washington wig the kid's Nat teammates stuck on his head after the game the other night.

You can listen to Bob Costas testily defend his "Walter Johnson, move over" hyperbole with Dan Patrick here.

Travis Hafner solves Strasburg for the kid's second gopher. If Costas were doing the game, he'd note how many home runs Robin Roberts gave up.

He recovers to get Peralta, his fourth K in two innings. Stephen Strasburg's still pretty motherf*cking great.

Nine innings pitched: 18 strikeouts, lifetime ERA of 2.00.

WTBS blacked me out today, the corksockers.

Jeeze, I live over 500 miles from Washington.

Five and a third, two hits and a run.

Five walks, eight whiffles.

Bought a pack of baseball cards on the way out of the supermarket.
Buying a pack from a machine is soooo weird.

Anyways, I got this card in the pack.
Course I'm gonna try and do it.
Tuff gig tho, one shot deal.
Small area. I tend to erase a bit.
(Joepet, if your reading this I will give you this card in a heartbeat cuz I know you will make the cut)

So, I call my bro and tell him about it and he says
"Well, your gonna do Strasburg, right?"

And I was like "No way!. I'm doin a Met.
I wanna do Davis!"

What do you guys think?
(keep in mind that it has to be from a picture used in a 2010 Topps or Bowman "product".)

Reyes has more character, with the braids and shit. I imagine All-Star types have a better chance of getting recognized.

My bro says if its not Stras its gotta be Wright if I want it to be considered.
I'm not sure I agree with this.
We talked MVP and he brought up a very good point.
The better Reyes does, the more chance the vote for a Met MVP will be split.

Cause my ultimate dream is those two splitting the MVP.

Oh my, I have hijacked this thread and I'm really jumping the proverbial gun here with MVP talk.

Now back to your regularly scheduled subject.

Topps is Looking for Strasburg sketch cards.

That's exactly the point I brought up with my brother.
That everyone's gonna be submitting Strasburg ones.

I wanna draw a Met.

The card does not specify any specific player.
But your probably right...thats what they might be looking for.

Topps: You can't get me to sell out, ya dirty screws!

How about some props to the winning pitcher?
A guy named Bannister.
Funny how stuff happens.
