HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 As Fred Imus might say, "this team can't suck enough."
Guest sharpie Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 In that more interesting Cards-Brewers game Cesar Izturis left with an injury. Since other players had come and gone from the game it necessitated Albert Pujols making his debut at second base while the backup catcher moved to first.

But there's still some hope that they'll be a good team this year.(As I'm typing this, Ramirez scares me by almost hitting a three-run homer.)
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Seems like Willie is trotting Jorge Sosa out there every single game.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Grand slam by Cedeno. Sosa has had a rough time in Wrigley.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Wow. This is like, the exact same game. You know, the reason Jorge Sosa can't be moved into the rotation is because he's so valuable out of the pen.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 In fairness, I don't think there's any great need for Sosa in the rotation right now.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 The Mets had the infield in with the bases loaded for the previous batter.Gary was wondering why they didn't play back for the inning-ending double play. The batter hits a hard grounder to short which could have been two had the infield been at DP depth. Instead Jose gets the force at home; then Casanova's throw to first wasn't in time. The decision to play the infield in ends up leading to a grand slam.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Mets are good at getting mini-swept.
Guest Grote15 Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Is Castro expected back by the all-star break..I know he's having setbacks...This Schneider-Casanova thing aint gonna get the ring.I know its early..but this team is flat as a pancake with few weapons.Lets dump Willie Randolph now and pray..The Cubs are the best team in baseball.. Gotta fire up the troops...
Guest Grote15 Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Is Tsyoshi Shinjo available...bring him and Bobby Valentine.. Barring David Wright.. this team currently sucks. When your offense is counting on the return of Moises Alou you know you're in trouble.
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 The always-optimistic Grote15 reminds me of the ever-sunny CleonJones11.
Guest mario25 Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Thank God it is early but the bullpen for the most part is bad, Castillo and Deldgado look washed up and I think the bench needs some pop. I agree that resting your hope on Alou is scary.... in regards to the catching tandem hurry back Castro

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Alou could make a difference; Castro not so much. The infield in was one thing - although one can make an argument for trying to keep it at a two-run game at that point - but Reyes looked to have plenty of time to turn two but chose instead to go home. He didn't need to take just the one out simply because he was shaded that way.But basically we didn't hit, didn't pitch, didn't play 'D', and weren't all that smart either. The screamers are going to be looking for scapegoats but this was a group effort.Turn the page.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I like the fire-Willie-and-pray approach. That sounds sound.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I tellsya, I get mad enough sometimes that it makes perfect sense.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 It's sad, but for this series, I don't even think you can realistically say "they battled".More like they laid down and played dead.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 What a butt-fuck of a 2 game set that was.I tuned in on XM with the Mets down 3-1 and it was 8-1 when I got to the bar. Just the right place to go, too, given the ending.Sheesh.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 First time in over 100 years the the Cubs have won four consecutive games with a margin of 6 runs or more.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I've not seen any of this series really , I have family out from Ireland and spent the day at the Bronx Zoo , I swear I saw Hank in the Gorilla enclosure.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 metirish - "I've not seen any of this series ..."Consider yourself lucky. You didn't miss much good from the Mets perspective. Enjoy your time with visiting family and be sure to thank them for keeping you occupied and thereby sparing you the pain and frustration of watching the Cubs kick the Mets collective asses.
Guest Triple Dee Guests Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 This was only the third game I missed this season, and the first I'm not planning to watch delayed.

Before the game I had visions of him giving up 6 earned in 2 1/3 innings. But he gave us some good innings, and left with the game still within reach.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Willie thought Figgi deserved better defense.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 He did, but while serving up 7 hits and 5 walks in 5 innings it's not like he left a whole lot of margin for error.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
