2008 25-Man Roster

If the above 25-man roster turns out to be accurate, there will only be four players making their Mets debut on the Opening Day roster: Santana, Church, Schneider, and Wise.

In recent years, the Opening Day debut count has been much higher, more like 10 or 12.

Last year's count was pretty low as well -- only 7 (Alou, Easley, Newhan, Schoeneweis, Smith, Burgos, Sele). 2005 and 2006 were the two big years of turnover.

I hadn't yet added this devlish character to the camp roster.

I also shrunk the free-agent list so it didn't dominate the posts. It looks sharp on my screen, and I hope it does on yours.

Really, the "Still on the Market" is the only modestly meaningful catgory from that table. I should just cut it down to that.

If you highlight a table at a time and send them to a color printer these
things come out really cool. Ya might have to mess with the scaling a little
but it's worth it to have them handy on your Mets clipboard.

You all have Mets clipboards, right?

Is the system-wide roster page going to be caught up?

Have Micheal Abreau's visa problems been resolved, or is he still not allowed to play before paying customers?

Thanks.
I read the Daily News in the paper version, and am not a blog reader, so I missed that.

Looks sweet.

Your picture of my boy Carlos Muniz looks to be Willie Collazo.

Here's Muniz. Mets.com has him in a blue cap even.

one thing though,

you may need to change all your minor league ball links from web.minorleag...
to www.minorle

X-Rays on the Goat's ankle are thankfully not showing a break, but I think it looks like this setback and Pagan's hot start are shifting Pagan into the lead for the 25th-man race.

Tejada looks like a 10 year old wearing daddy's cap.

Nice update job.

Well, this is starting to stink. Brady Clark is probably next and I have broken tag there and he isn't even appearing.

Let's look at it this way. If Johnson can't go, and if they make no more deals before opening day.

  1. The Goat is ready and takes the last spot as sixth infielder. Marlon Anderson becomes fifth outfielder. 29%
  2. Brady Clark takes the last spot as fifth outfielder. 24%

  3. Fernando Tatis gets the job. He's got plenty of experience, plays both corners, and has had one fine year. 19%

  4. Anderson Hernandez is the man. They suck it up and think defense first. 12%

  5. Jose Valentin somehow recovers in time for opening day, makes the roster with one or two spring appearances. 7%

  6. Olmedo Saenz, pressed into action and his visa problems cleared up, whacks the ball all over the place, and comes north looking to show some of the modest lefty-killingness he had as a younger man. 5%

  7. Michel Abreu may be old and on the shelf for 16 months, but he can rake and the Mets decide it's now or never. 4%

  8. Fernando Martinez hits one long homer, and the Mets decide to give him a ride north, reasoning that two weeks of seasoning on a major league roster can only help him, and there'll be no pressure, as he's just there to sub in some defense, run the bases and get an occasional at-bat in benevolent situations. 3%

  9. Anderson Machado shows a little batting eye, and pleases a Met staff already enomored of anyone named Anderson. 2%

Well, until I hear good news about the Goat, it's a story about a man named Brady.

News item 1: Our first round of cuts is in. A big hatchet job.

News item 2: A handful of guys played today that the Mets have never listed on their online spring training roster. I'm going to assume they are not working out with the big team, but are merely sent to the occasional game (such as on a split-squad day) to fill out the roster.

News item 3: We have new mugshots... WITH BLUE HATS!

David Wright is the only player on the projected 25 man roster that is still sporting a black hat. Well, he's healthy and can hit so I'll try to overlook his nonconformity.

The good news is that the Mets' issuing them for photo day suggests the old standard is the new standard. And that's great.

Castro and Easley have their holograms showing.

Probably missed photo day or something.

Update time, and a few questions.

What's up with Bostick? Is he injured?

This Spring every Mets prospect and suspect was put under a microscope when it came time for appearances and roster cuts. But I don't recall seeing Bostick's name.
The guy has been on the 40 man roster for quite a while, but seems be wearing a cloak of invisibility.
What's his story?

And, anyone betting a few months ago that Cassanove would make the 25 man roster could have made a lot of money, eh?
