I first predicted a walk of Kaboom in the Mets future in the ninth inning. Back on page 7 (of 14) of this IGT. At 10:31 PM. It was worth the long wait to see it finally came to fruition and the Mets win.

In the end, Matson's presence may have hurt the Phils in a strange sense. He entered the game on a double switch, forcing offensive monster David Bell and his five RBI out of the game in favor of Abraham Nuez, the Great Emancipator, who went 0-3.

The Mets on the other hand, did no double switches, burning their whole bench on classic pinch-hit-for-the-pitcher appearances. They finished with the same starting eight they sent out there in the first.

Those pinch-hitters finished 2-4 with a walk, two doubles, a run scored and two RBI.

Amazin'.

if you click "properties" on martin's red X and then go to the site you can see his kaboom in all it's glory, it's actually a site for what looks like a fake organization, the American Land Mine Association, that is against banning mines because they're cool and blow stuff up (sadly it took me until the part about we should sell mines for use in keeping neighbors pets off our property to get that the site was a joke.)

Met Pen

11 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 13 SO, 1.63 ERA.

Second base umpire Andy Fletcher may have blown a call in favor of each team.

Too marvelous for words.

That was worth staying up for.

Awesome.

Fell asleep in the 13th or 14th, woke up in the 16th, just in time to see Beltran's homer. Watched him cross the plate and get mobbed just as I turned the TV off and happily went back to sleep. Great timing.

Awesome how this team just keeps coming back team after team, game after game, inning after inning.

Couldn't stay up. Dozed off after the 13th.

Was sure the Mets lost when I saw the Phils starting to get to Oliver with that line drive double-play. Figured they'd score the next inning.

Pleasently surprised, to say the least, when I found out this morning that they pulled it out.

Won't boo Beltran tonight at the game.

Am starting to be concerned that Willie's gonna burn this pen out if something is not done for the starting rotation sooner rather than later.

Reyes this morning on ESPN when asked about the fatigue factor after a game like that replies with a large toothy grin : "I no tired! I no tired!"

Gotta love that kid.

Lets Go Mets!

This was a fabulous game. However, in the midst of this great win, I think it's important to focus on the Mets allowing 8 runs to begin with. Like Friday night, this win was fun, but unless this pitching gets turned around, this team won't be able to compete like this for long. The offense just can't score this many runs a night.

Trachsel is being asked to be a #3, and I think tonight he demonstrated he is not up to it. Good start, bad start, ok start...this is what Trachsel is. If the Mets are serious about making a run this season, they need a starter to slot in ahead of Trachsel.

Robbie Alomar was traded off the team, what, three years ago? Why do we still have people diving into first base? (Note to respondants: The argument about avoiding tags does not apply to yesterday's game.)

Posted

If Ralph were doing the game he would tell us that you don't see 100 meter sprinters diving for the finish line.....

Maybe instead of having stupid facial hair rules, Willie could make some useful ones, like no more diving into first base.

Or no more dropping the ball on plays at the plate.

The weird thing is that first base is the only base Beltran slides into headfirst. He goes to every other base feetfirst.

Speaking of which, does anyone think Reyes is going to go for a long time without sustaining a spectacular injury from diving head first?
