  1. That dude falling down = fun.
  2. Seems to just be an AP story. Moved on the wire in the wee hours. By Beth Harris (@bethharrisap), sportswriter out of the L.A. bureau.
  3. Carl Pavano calls it quits. http://mlb.si.com/2014/02/27/carl-pavano-retire-twins-yankees-expos-marlins/ Guillermo Mota gives up the ghost. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/rhp-guillermo-mota-retires-after-14-seasons/2014/03/02/3720da02-a230-11e3-b865-38b254d92063_story.html
  4. That radio show with two fellows named Michael -- can't recall the name of the program -- officially announced this morning that Bobby Valentine will be doing analysis for that ubiquitous national sports network this postseason. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/2009/09/23/2009-09-23_bobby_valentine.html I suppose I might have to pay attention.
  5. Putz? With a 5-run lead? Really?
  6. ="metirish"]="A Boy Named Seo"]Rob Dibble hates scouting reports. They're confusing and stuff for pitchers. In Dibble's world that's probably cool , didn't Bobby Valentine basically call Dibble a moron while he was manager of the Mets . IIRC Dibble questioned the toughness of Mets pitchers and Bobby told him to shut up. Ollie might be the last person I'd want coming out of the pen. Some guy in baseball-hating Washington has the deets (but not the Jeets) right here. "He was unprofessional and uninformed," Valentine also said. "This is the reason people switch off ESPN, because you have people with no knowledge of the game or the English language presenting the game we love."
  7. Truly funny uniform situation as O'Day is just coming in for the Rangers, wearing the #30 of Kason Gabbard. Funny scene as he has to meet all the infielders for the first time on the mound, and he and Salty have to quickly figure out the signs. "What the hell do you throw, anyway?" He literally made it to the SkyDome (or whatever) about 20 minutes ago, where he's getting called on in the 11th inning where the Texas pen is apparently depleted. (Announcers say Everyday Eddie is the only one available yet to pitch.) Situation is 1st and 2nd, one out after an IBB to Rolen. Michael F. Young capped a fun-filled 3-run top of the 9th with a HR to send it to extras: I. Kinsler grounded into fielder's choice, C. Davis to third, J. Saltalamacchia out at second, C. Davis scored, I. Kinsler to second on second baseman A. Hill's throwing error - J. Hamilton grounded out to shortstop, I. Kinsler scored - M. Young homered to deep center --- On edit: And he throws about 18 balls out of the strike zone before serving up a meatball (TV guys say "he sorta hung a curve" -- yeah, and Joe Morgan is sorta an idiot) to Kevin Millaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
  8. Does anyone know how they'll handle tix for the Monday game? Online? Walk-up only?
  9. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Good snare by Wright. Did you see how he tried to throw it in the stands and it went straight up? Unbeknownst to the Mets, that action has triggered "Pac-10 rules night" at Shea. Hamels will now pitch from 30 feet away and the Mets bullpen will be required to conform to the pitching motion of a men's over-40 league.
  10. metsguyinmichigan wrote: ="Nymr83"]HAHA jeter hits into a doubleplay Oh, but he did so with class and grace -- the Yankee way. Can't quite put my finger on why he did that. Hmm. Must be something intangible, I guess.
  11. Put it in the Book.
  12. Time to root against, uh, Jayson Werth and other guys I've never heard of. Most importantly, Matt Holliday's hitting streak gets halted at like 14 or something.
  13. Please gas this thread post haste if this has already been posted elsewhere. http://www.amazon.com/York-Essential-Games-Stadium-Steelbook/dp/B00142UZ8K
  14. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/preview08/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=3320120 ]So let's face it. What really has helped them stay out of that team-to-beat chatter is that the Braves just aren't yappers. They don't teach that Yapping 101 course at Robert Cox University, apparently. Ick.
  15. I had to e-mail Mets.com about 15 times this year before they finally added Tom Seaver to "retired numbers" under the team history section. And you'd better believe Wade Boggs was listed on the D-Rays site at the time. Oy.

  20. Seemed like the right (only) thread to bump: BC-BBN--Mets-Haines Suspended,0083 Mets minor leaguer suspended for 50 games NEW YORK (AP) Mets minor league pitcher Timothy Haines was suspended for 50 games Thursday for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, Major League Baseball announced. Haines was New York's 27th-round pick in this year's draft out of University of Texas-Pan American. The right-hander was 2-0 with a 3.09 ERA and three saves in 10 games with Single-A Brooklyn.

  22. ="Edgy DC"]I can't remember the last 11-run inning. Miller: "Biggest inning in Mets history." Stealth postgame anti-karma edit: Unless you mean the last time the Mets were involved in an 11-run inning ... http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B04070ATL2004.htm
