Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Sorry, have to get the game thread up early, because I'm out much of the day. The good news for the Mets is that this West Coast swing has to end at some point. Right? It ends, right? Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 15 Posted April 15 This is the first of three ESPN games this year. All are weeknights (the others are the first game post-All Star break in Philadelphia, and the series finale against Baltimore in September). Joe Buck (yes, oddly — he is doing this game on ESPN) has play-by-play with Ronnie and Orel Hershiser on color.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 15 Posted April 15 He was. Gerber, Garcia, and Lovelady are not on the active roster. Williams is (but hasn’t pitched in 8 days), as is Austin Warren.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Two late nights. Not sure how much of this one I’ll catch.

The good news, the Mets have Holmes on the mound. He has been the Mets most consistent starting pitcher, not named McLean. Unfortunately, Holmes likely have to throw a shutout for the Mets to win. The bad news is that they are the Dodgers, an offensive juggernaut and we are the offensively inept Mets. So I won't be surprised if it is another early night.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I have this weird feeling the Mets are going to hit Ohtani and win like 6-3 Im looking for Bichette to lead the offense sans Soto whippoorwill 1
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 15 Posted April 15 For whatever it is worth, the offensive juggernaut has been held in check, two nights running. It's the offense not getting untracked.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I just realized that (a) it is April 15, (b) The Mets are playing The Dodgers, and (c) the game is a national broadcast. And this sort of means the broadcast is going to be slathered in ceremony — some of it inspiring, some of it nauseating. (Your mileage yadda yadda, but 42s will be everywhere.) Joe Buck will be doing his only MLB game of the year as he is joined by Metscaster Ron Darling and Dodgercaster Orel Hershiser. Among the things that won't go noted is that the Mets are kind of long overdue to introduce some African-American contributors to their English-language TV booth.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15 Posted April 15 If they don't score like 20 runs off Ohtani in the first inning today, just release everyone and start over in Chicago Friday night.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Ohtani is going to suck tonight. Mark my words
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I realized it was Jackie Robinson Day when I went to Baseball Reference this morning and all of the photos on the home page were of players who had played in the Negro Leagues. MFS62 1
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 15 Posted April 15 "Hey, MJ! Get your bags, I just got the call. The Mets need you in Los Angeles tonight." "Yes!" "And stay loose. They say you're in the lineup." "YES!" "Against Ohtani." "Errr ... OK. Still good, right?"

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Benge has a chance to drive in Benge if Benge can reach.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16 Posted April 16 It's Baty's turn to bat third although I do keep asking I don't see that Brett Baty has figured out MLB yet. He just doesn't hit much Mauricio looks like his future is as a journeyman utility guy which is fine by meà But I believe most Mets fans would say Baty is further along than Mauricio I don't see it
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 16 Posted April 16 My take on Baty is that he starts slow. If it’s like other years, he’ll get hot later on. (then cool off, then maybe pick it up again)

I’m not exactly sure the Mets’ TV booth has openings at the moment. That said, Cliff Floyd has done some very good work for MLB Network and if SNY could hire him away I’d be quite happy with that. Curtis Granderson also did some work for TBS which I haven’t seen much of but I can easily imagine him on a Mets broadcast too.

There are certainly opportunities available as all three broadcasters in the Mets booth are dialing back their schedules. Brian McRae has also been interesting when I have seen him pop up, and I know he studied broadcasting in college, but I haven't seen him in a while.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Wait a minute ... Dodger Stadium is now called "UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium"? How long has this been? It's stunning enough that an iconic fixture like Dodger Stadium would sell naming rights, but for a gross, jive-ass Japanese fast-fashion outlet? That's, like, Marlins-level whoring.

Particularly stunning in that they don’t need the money.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I'd like Ohtani somehow be involved in the Eric Swalwell sex scandal
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I was never a huge Buck fan, but it take less than 2 innings to realize just how much better Joe Buck is than Joe Davis. Centerfield 1
