Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 24 Posted March 24 What's your take on the number of wins the Mets end up with this season?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Two voters so far (I'm one of them) and both are for 91-95. I feel like I'm being optimistic, but not overly so.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted March 25 Posted March 25 89 wins for me. I think that will be enough for the playoffs. Trying to figure out who the playoff contenders will be. From the east, you have NY, ATL, PHI. I think the Marlins will be pesky but not quite ready to be a contender yet. From the central, you have the Cubs and Brewers. Though I think Milwaukee takes a step back. The west has LA, SD and SF. I don’t think Arizona will be a serious contender. 8 teams. 6 spots.

But hey, that's bound to end at some point. Still, I think they're a mid-80s or better win team. I think Atlanta stumbles again this season, leaving the division to the Mets and Phillies. I also question how long until Philly's age catches up with them. I think the Cubs are going to be real good. As a long-time San Diego resident, it pains me to say this but I think the Padres take a significant step back, maybe even under .500 (though I think 81-83 wins is more likely).
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I was thinking 88 or 89 wins, when I initially saw the thread title.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I went 91-95. Put me down for 92. They could end up with a bunch more… or a whole lot less.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Posted March 26 <85. This team is not a better overall team than last year's edition, and they were 83-79. Hope they prove me wrong, but I'll be the pessimist here. Too many 'ifs'. If Devin Williams makes us forget Edwin Diaz If Luis Roberts isn't just in a downward spiral. If Polanco/Baty/Vientos make us forget Pete Alonso. If Peterson's and Senga's horrible second halves aren't an indication of things to come. If Manaea's loss of velocity was just working out the kinks in spring training. If Carson Benge wasn't rushed too quickly. I could go on.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Posted March 26 A flying saucer from another galaxy landing in Times Square wouldn't make us forget Pete Alonso.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Posted March 26 @Brock BeauchampThe votes don't seem to keep in this thread, by the way. I've voted three times.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I've voted "for the first time" three times, I mean. Like I check the thread and it's like the poll has been reset. (Of course, now it's fine.)

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I've noticed the same thing with the polls. I'm just going to ignore them.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26 Posted March 26 That's why I brought it up! Figured there was a setting somewhere that needed to be tweaked.

Add in the fact that the manager still hasn’t proven to me that he can manage ( a pitching staff) and the 85 win ceiling is looking good. later
