Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor may need surgery on his left hamate bone, president of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday, though this won’t necessarily preclude him from being ready for Opening Day.

Lindor will be evaluated Wednesday for a stress reaction in his hand — something that would require a six-week recovery period, with ramp-up included.

“At this point, even if it does require surgery, we remain optimistic that Francisco would be back for Opening Day,” Stearns said in a news conference at Clover Park. “He’s had soreness off and on there for a couple of years and he’s usually able to grind through it and he does it. I don’t know when he first felt it, but I think it just persisted to the point where he felt like he should say something.

Reed Garrett: The Mets placed Garrett (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Tuesday. The transaction frees up a 40-man roster spot for the addition of Bryan Hudson. Garrett underwent UCL reconstruction surgery in October and will miss the entire 2026 season. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Francisco Lindor: Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday that Lindor (elbow) is being evaluated for a possible stress reaction in his left hamate bone and could require surgery, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. If an operation is needed, Lindor would need six weeks to recover. In that instance, Stearns said it's possible Lindor would be ready in time for Opening Day, but it would be a tight window given that the Mets' opener is just over six weeks away. Lindor is also coming back from a right elbow debridement procedure that he had last October, but he seems to be fully recovered from that procedure. If Lindor gets a late start to the season, the Mets could slide Bo Bichette over to shortstop and install Brett Baty at third base. Injury Hand. Est. Return 2/21/2026.

AJ Minter: Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Tuesday that the team is targeting early May for Minter's (lat) season debut, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports. Minter will get a late start to the season after undergoing left lat surgery last May. It's not clear where the veteran reliever is at in his throwing program, but he will be slow-played during spring training before eventually going out on a rehab assignment. Once healthy, Minter will fill a setup role ahead of closer Devin Williams. Injury Lat. Est. Return 5/1/2026.

Well, the report indicates that Bichette is the first thought, but I imagine both will see some time.

Luisangel Acuna and Jett Williams, not so much.

Justin Armbruester: Injury Lat. Est. Return 3/1/2026.

Tyler Burch: Burch missed most of 2024 and all of 2025 due to right elbow surgery, but the expectation is he will be ready to go for the start of the 2026 campaign. The 28-year-old reliever has yet to advance past the Double-A level, having posted a 3.07 ERA and 34:21 K:BB over 41 innings at Double-A Bowie in the Orioles organization in 2023 in his last full season. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/10/2026.

Daniel Duarte: Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/10/2026.

Nate Lavender: Lavender (elbow) cleared outright waivers and was returned to the Mets. The Rays acquired Lavender via the Rule 5 Draft last winter, so now that he's been outrighted off the Rays' 40-man roster, he'll return to the Mets' farm system. The 25-year-old lefty missed all of last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, and he underwent another procedure in August to remove a bone spur in his left elbow. His availability for the start of spring training remains unclear. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/10/2026.

I hope Lavender makes the majors, then my streak of "Mets minor league pitchers I want to see make the big leagues" will be unbroken these past few years. Let's not forget in three Spring Trainings with the Mets (2022-2024), he has a 0.00 ERA and 0.65 WHIP in 9 games. In 7 2/3 innings, he hasn't allowed a single hit and has 12 Ks!

He absolutely was a spring stud two years ago and had seemingly made the team when things went awry.

These aren't Mets updates, but Corbin Carroll and Jackson Holliday both have hamate injuries as well.

Candido Cuevas: Injury Undisclosed. Est. Return 3/1/2026.

Francisco Lindor: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Lindor will undergo right hamate bone surgery Wednesday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. President of baseball operations David Stearns noted Tuesday that surgery for Lindor was a possibility, and it's now confirmed that the shortstop will be going under the knife. Rehab is expected to take six weeks, and while the Mets are optimistic Lindor will be ready for Opening Day, it's hardly a sure thing. If Lindor needs to miss time, the Mets could shift Bo Bichette over to shortstop and install Brett Baty at third base. Injury Hand. Est. Return 3/26/2026.

Jose Marte: Injury Shoulder. Est. Return 3/1/2026.

Tylor Megill: The Mets placed Megill (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for MJ Melendez, who signing became official Thursday. Megill will miss the entire 2026 season following September 2025 Tommy John surgery. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Dedniel Nunez: The Mets placed Nunez (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Sunday. The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for catcher Ben Rortvedt, whom the Mets claimed off waivers from the Dodgers on Sunday. The move won't affect Nunez's timeline for a return; the 29-year-old right-hander is likely to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery July 14. Injury Elbow. Est. Return 9/1/2026.

Brett Baty: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Baty will be eased into spring training action after experiencing hamstring discomfort during offseason workout two weeks ago, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports. It doesn't sound like an overly serious issue for Baty, but the Mets are going to bring him along slowly early in camp. Baty figures to have a chance to beat out top prospect Carson Benge for the starting job in right field this spring, but if he doesn't, Baty is still projected to see plenty of playing time around the diamond in a utility role in 2026. Injury Hamstring. Day-to-day.

Peyton Prescott: Injury Elbow. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Mike Tauchman: The Mets signed Tauchman (knee) to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report. Top prospect Carson Benge enters spring training seemingly in the driver's seat for the Mets' right-field job, but Tauchman will provide additional competition and depth. The 35-year-old slashed .263/.356/.400 with nine home runs over 93 contests last season with the White Sox. Tauchman's season ended in late September due to a torn meniscus in his right knee, and it's unclear whether he will have any restrictions at the outset of camp.

Injury Knee. Day-to-day.

Vidal Brujan: Brujan was removed in the sixth inning of Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays due to an apparent hand injury, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports. He went 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base prior to exiting the game. Brujan appeared to suffer the injury when his hand got stepped on by a Blue Jays infielder on a stolen-base attempt in the top of the sixth. The 27-year-old drew the start at shortstop Monday, and assuming the hand injury isn't anything too significant, Brujan could break camp as the Mets' top option at the position if Francisco Lindor (hand) isn't ready to go for Opening Day. Injury Hand. Day-to-day.

Grae Kessinger: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Kessinger will get imaging done after suffering a left knee injury in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals, SNY Mets reports. Mendoza noted that the injury "didn't look too good," but the club will wait for MRI results before determining a plan for Kessinger. Kessinger seemed to have a chance to make the Opening Day roster in the event that Francisco Lindor (hand) isn't ready, but Kessinger is now facing a possible extended absence. Injury Knee. Day-to-day.

Francisco Lindor: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Lindor had his stitches removed from his left hand Tuesday and could begin some "impact" activities within 2-to-3 days, Max Goodman of NJ.com reports. Mendoza added that Lindor has experienced no complications since undergoing surgery two weeks ago to repair a stress reaction in his left hamate bone, and the star shortstop appears poised to begin a hitting progression in the coming days. Though it could take a bit of time for Lindor to regain his power coming off the procedure, he should be in good shape to avoid a stint on the injured list to begin the season so long as he's not dealing with any discomfort as he increases his baseball activities. Injury Hand. Est. Return 3/26/2026.

AJ Minter: Minter (lat) expects to throw a live batting practice session next week, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. It would be his first time facing hitters since last May's left lat surgery. Minter is aiming to pitch in at least one Grapefruit League game before the end of camp, and the Mets hope to get the southpaw back in their bullpen by early May. Injury Lat. Est. Return 5/1/2026.

Francisco Lindor: Lindor (hand) took swings Wednesday for the first time since undergoing hamate bone surgery, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. It's a big step in Lindor's recovery, as he tries to ensure he's ready for Opening Day. The veteran shortstop has avoided setbacks in his rehab so far, but he's still a long way from having a firm timeline for spring game action. For now, Lindor will continue his hitting progression in controlled environments. Injury Hand. Est. Return 3/26/2026.

A.J. Minter: Minter (lat) will throw a live batting practice session Wednesday, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. It will be his first time facing hitters since he underwent left lat surgery last May. Minter hopes to pitch in at least one Grapefruit League game before camp breaks and is aiming for his season debut in late April or early May. Injury Lat. Est. Return 5/1/2026.

Robert Stock: Stock (shoulder) said Sunday that he'll require surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome and could be sidelined for the remainder of the season, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. Stock is leaving the door open to pitch late in the season, but since he had been attending Mets camp on a minor-league deal, he's unlikely to surface in the majors at any point in 2026. The right-hander first experienced discomfort in his shoulder following his start Tuesday for Team Israel in an exhibition game against the Marlins. Injury Shoulder. Est. Return 9/1/2026.

Brandon Waddell: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said that Waddell is dealing with shoulder discomfort and won't pitch in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins as planned, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports. The severity of the shoulder issue isn't fully known, but Waddell will likely be shut down for at least a few days. The southpaw resurfaced in the majors last season for the first time since 2021, appearing in 11 games and posting a 3.45 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 22:11 K:BB over 31.1 innings with the Mets. Waddell no longer occupies a spot on the 40-man roster and is expected to open the season as a swingman at Triple-A Syracuse. Injury Shoulder. Day-To-Day.

Robert Stock was pretty much the #1 starter for Syracuse, so his is the second big blow of the spring — maybe the first, depending on how big the Lindor blow ends up being.

And really, at 36, with all the ambiguities that thoracic outlet syndrome/surgery brings, this looks like a career ender.

I just had to look up Robert Stock. My mind kept telling me, "He's that stocky, hard throwing RHP from the Cubs a few years back." Then I would think, no way, his career is ended years ago. So I looked him up and damned if it isn't who I remembered (take that alzheimers), only he's still pitching.

It is amazing how many players that are discussed here that I have no memory of, or I can picture them, but can't recall their name. Robert Stock however, sticks in the cobwebs of my mind. The mind is a mysterious thing.

SNY had footage of Lindor on a back field playing catch yesterday. Made me happy to see even if it's not much of a milestone

Stockpile had a strange sequence back in 2021 when he got called up to start for a single game by the Cubs and was battered around by the Mets, and then the Cubs tried to put him through waivers immediately after and the Mets grabbed him. Win-win.

He later got a single start for the Mets and looked half-way decent (relative to the pounding the Mets hung on him) but the Mets didn't score for him and he took the loss.

Justin HagenmanThe Mets placed Hagenman on the 60-day injured list Saturday due to a rib fracture. Per Max Goodman of NJ.com, Hagenman started feeling soreness in his ribs after his last outing against the Nationals on March 5 and underwent imaging after the injury got worse. Hagenman's placement on the 60-day IL means he won't be available to make his 2026 regular-season until late May, but manager Carlos Mendoza relayed Saturday that the 28-year-old right-hander doesn't have an exact timeline for a return. In a corresponding move to bolster the bullpen, the Mets claimed southpaw Richard Lovelady off waivers from the Nationals. Injury Ribs. Est. Return 5/27/2026.

Francisco Lindor: Lindor (hand) took batting practice on the field Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. It's the first time since Lindor underwent right hamate bone surgery at the start of Mets camp that he went through a full round of batting practice on the field. After BP, Lindor faced fellow rehabber A.J. Minter (lat) in a live batting practice session. It's not clear when Lindor might be cleared to play in games, but everything is pointing toward him being available Opening Day against the Pirates. Injury Hand. Est. Return 3/26/2026.

AJ MinterMinter (lat) hit 93 mph with his fastball in a live batting practice session Friday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. That's still a little below his usual velocity, but Minter also worked in his changeup and cutter during the mound session, with the latter pitch getting Francisco Lindor (hand) to exclaim, "That was sick." Minter hasn't pitched in a game since April 26, 2025, but he's hoping he'll be ready to rejoin the Mets' high-leverage crew by late April this season. "Honestly, it feels way better than I expected it was going to feel," Minter said of his repertoire after Friday's session. Injury Lat. Est. Return 5/1/2026.

Francisco LindorLindor (hand) played four innings at shortstop while making his spring debut in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays, but afterwards he wouldn't commit to being ready for Opening Day despite saying that he has "checked every single box," Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. The 32-year-old went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a strikeout in his first game action since undergoing surgery in mid-February to repair a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. Lindor will continue ramping up toward playing a full game, and he certainly appears to be trending toward being available for the start of the regular season, even though that's not yet official. Injury Hand. Day-to-Day.

Peter KussowKussow recently underwent labrum surgery on his right shoulder and was placed on the FCL Mets' full-season injured list Wednesday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports. Kussow was a fourth-round pick by the Mets in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft. This was slated to be his first full minor-league season, but instead the right-hander will spend the entirety of the campaign recovering and rehabbing from surgery. Injury Shoulder. Est. Return 2/1/2027.

Mike TauchmanTauchman was removed from Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros with a left knee injury, Jorge Castillo of ESPN.com reports. Tauchman seemingly injured himself while running out of the batter's box in the third inning. He attempted to play through it but was still visibly bothered by his knee until he was removed in the fifth. The 35-year-old non-roster invitee had been in the running to grab a spot on the Mets' bench, but he now may be in jeopardy of beginning the year on the injured list. Injury Knee. Day-To-Day.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies placed right-handed pitcher Joshua Cornielly on the 60-day injured list.

On March 18, 2026, the Brooklyn Cyclones placed left-handed pitcher Ryan Ammons, shortstop Boston Baro, and right-handed pitcher Owen Woodward on the 60-day injured list. That same day, they also placed right-handed pitcher Austin Troesser and left-handed pitcher Eli Ankeney on the full-season injured list.

Also on March 18, 2026, the FCL Mets placed Peyton Prescott on the 60-day injured list, along with catcher Daniel Silva on the 60-day injured list.

The St. Lucie Mets placed right-handed pitchers Ethan Lanthier, Edgar Moreta, Jace Hampson, and Candido Cuevas, as well as shortstop Trey Snyder, on the 60-day injured list on March 18, 2026.

Finally, on March 18, 2026, the Syracuse Mets placed right-handed pitchers Kevin Herget and Robert Stock, along with third baseman Grae Kessinger, on the 60-day injured list.

Depending on severity, recovery time can be a few weeks to 6-9 months.  So we may not ever see Tauchman.
