Maddox has already been answered.  He sadly came up short.

Marlon Byrd was a Ranger at some point.  Did he put up enough WAR in his 4 months  as a Met to make this list?

If you include the familial continuity of franchises, Del Unser played for the Mets and the newly-born Washington Senators, later reborn as the Texas Rangers.

Marlon Byrd did indeed.  Signed for a song while the Mets were operating on an austerity budget, after he had served his time for PED abuse, Marlon had a champion in Terry Collins, and Terry was no fool, squeezing 3.9 2013 bWAR out of Marlon.

Gold star.

And while I'm giving gold stars out, lest it be unwritten, to anybody who looks up these answers, while pretending to pull them out of back pocket, may you soil yourselves in public.

Wiggy

Can anybody earn bWARs like a guy named Ty?  I think NOT.  But fortunately for the Wigginton family, Ty failed to sully his clan's good name by playing for the Rangers.

Todd Frazier.

YES!  YES, you fools!

Todd Frazier and Todd Zeile ...

  1. ... both mostly played third.
  2. ... both batted righty.
  3. ... both had good power but weren't winning any homerun titles.
  4. ... both were largely associated with a single franchise the first half of their careers before becoming vagabonds in the second half.
  5. ... both were associated for the first half of their careers with franchises defined by their red-ness.
  6. ... both had two tenures with the Mets.
  7. ... both put up OPS+'s above 100 but under 110.
  8. ... both had powerful upper bodies but kind of rocked the Dad look in the middle.
  9. ... both married gymnasts.
  10. ... both answered to the name "Todd."
  11. TODD!

Todd Frazier also had a subtle way of pimping his homers and a kinda-dumb/kinda-catchy nickname.

He finishes just above the celebrated Lenny Randle Line.

Delly is our final guy.

Thanks to you all for your contributions.  Many of you have great things to contribute to society.

Those who may or may not have cheated, perhaps less so.

Here's the not necessarily harder but certainly trickier version of the same quiz.

Name the twenty highest bWAR-earning RANGERS who also played for the Mets.

And I will say it up front — if you cheat, may your favorite sport coat forever smell like monkey dung, but you won't be able to smell it yourself, and so every room you enter thinking you are making a splash will soon empty as sickened people look over their shoulders at you, with you utterly unable to understand what you have done to repulse SO many people.

With that out of the way, give me your Rangers!

I bet Kenny Rogers is on this list.

It seems nobody has taken you on this bet, nor negotiated stakes.

And right they were, for to accept such a bet would make one the mayor of Fool City, for Kenny is the bWARriest Ranger of all Rangers to also have a tenure with the Mets, having had three (THREE!) prosperous (PROSPEROUS!) runs with the Texas team in his highly impressive career.

Points for your wisdom and your quickness!

And Nolan Ryan.

No foolish bets were placed against Ryan, either.  His entire Rangers run was after his 40th birthday (indeed, after his 41st), but he was still piling up bWAR and making the Mets look like knuckleads.

Points!

Max Schrezer.

It has been a storied career for Herr Scherzer, but it has only included 88 1/3 innings for Texas.  That was enough opportunity for him to earn 1.3 bWAR, but that only qualifies him to tie for 44th on this list.

No Scherzer soup for you!

On 9/26/2026 at 6:05 PM, Centerfield said:

Julio Franco.

A true Texas great in his prime, a true Met placeholder in his elder years, Julio earned 20.2 bRanger bWAR, and that means you've pegged the #3 guy on our list!

Puntos!

And his fellow 2006 Met Darren Oliver

Way to remember tenure dates!  bWAR is particularly miserly in assessing the value of situational relievers, but a smart man like you recalls that pre-Met Darren had two (TWO!) intrepid Ranger-runs as a starter qualifying for seventh on this list!

Keep it up, folks!  You're killing it!

You give me too much credit as there is no way I remember Oliver having two different runs with Texas, and certainly not as a starter.  I remember him a a starter with St. Louis (?).  I was thinking of Oliver’s post-Mets tenure, when he was still an effective reliever for Anaheim and the Rangers (and I think he was on their WS teams in 2010/11).

I did just realize there is an obvious answer missing here:  our new-ish friend Marcus Semien.

You would have been forgiven for putting the "-ish" after "friend," but you are crazy-correct.

CRAZY-correct!

That gets most of the low-hanging fruitcakes, but plenty of delicious RangerMets await!

Jon Matlack

Matlack is special in regard to these two quizzlets, in that he had a substantial enough career with both teams to rank high on both list.

More typical is the guy who prospered with one organization and cameo'd with the other, but you got Matlack, and spelled is name correctly for good measure.  GOOD FOR YOU!

How about Dock Ellis?

How about Dock Ellis?  Was he a crazy cat or what?

As a Ranger, though, Dock was less than elite, garnering 2.8 bWAR, 28th among once and future Mets, but your commitment to disco-era Mets is noticed and held dear.

The king of Smithtown, Frank Catalanotto.

I had not known there was a change in regents for Smithtonian subjects, but it is important for us all to have some Frank-ness, and this list has it right there tied at #11 where Frank Catalanotto (translation: big guy from Catalan) shows off his 6.9 Ranger bWARs.

Craig Biggio probably has a better claim to that title.

If not Dock Ellis, how about his colleague in medicine, Doc Medich?

It's the loving commitment to disco-era Mets that define your work.  Other players would do well to look closely at what you're bringing to the table.

They'd also have done well to look at that slot where Frank Catalanotto is tied for 11th, because the guy he's tied with is ... Doc Medich!!
