Did not see this coming because

(1) Green seemed to be pretty clear that he didn’t want to be a full time manager; and

(2) I was expecting an open search process after the season ended.  In fairness, maybe that did happen to some degree —- presumably some of the most frequently-mentioned candidates were already available to be interviewed — (e.g., Cora, Beltran).

Yeah, I'm kinda with Gwreck here. Sure, he's allowed to change his mind, but the Mets have presumably been looking at potential managers and had some favorites whose tires are worth kicking (right? right?!). Maybe he is the best guy, but it seems odd to pull the trigger without going any further into the process.

He actually strikes me as a manager. He has the vibe. Both Mendoza and Rojas were a little too laid-back or milquetoast.

Well, that's a good point. He didn't exactly engineer a miracle turnaround, he just did better than the previous guy, and that's a pretty low bar.

yes, compared to where they were. But yeah they struggled still under Green, got shut out too often, lost a lot of winnable serieses and that's with Lindor & Bichette having much better halves. Baty too. (Ewing not so much. Alvy don't get me started)

Hey, there's six games left in the season. If the Mets win all of them, then by winning percentage Andy Green will technically be the fifth-most successful manager in Mets history.

I’m surprised to hear this. I would think the organization would want to do a thorough search to make sure they explored all possible options. Maybe they did. Maybe Cora didn’t want the gig and Beltrán preferred a different role. 
 

I’m just ok with Green. Doesn’t seem like he’ll make a big difference either way. And has the benefit of following a guy who appeared to be a net negative.

But he achieved that after they traded the best arms in the bullpen, two starters, and a solid fourth outfielder.
