Following one of the most improbable games you've ever seen, both sloppy and transcendent, both uplifting and draining, the Royals return to Citi Field to take on a better-rested Mets team that still has a bullpen depletion thing happening.  Look for the Mets to add at least one fresh arm for the game, possibly two, and maybe the Royales with Cheese to do the same.

Royals righthander Steven Cruz is listed as starter, but you can feel certain that this is an opening gig and not a real start, and he will be gone by the third, and probably by the second.  Hopefully earlier if the Mets TCB.

The Mets defend with Christian Scott, who is a real starter.  The 2015 World Series isn't going to avenge itself.

I really haven't been watching much. I saw the last few innings of Sunday's game, but that was the first time I had tuned in in quite a while. They're a team of strangers who are going nowhere. Not very compelling. Yes, I'd like to get better acquainted with Ewing and Benge and McLean, but I have trouble watching a game when I don't care much about the outcome. And it's become quite clear now that this is a lost season.

It was an entertaining game for as ugly as it was. You don;t see guys get 5 hits, a 3-run inside-the-park home run, a pitcher run his ERA up to 81, etc every night
