What is Jeff Francouer doing in the stadium and who is he broadcasting for cuz he isn't listed as part of any Philly teams?

I knew he was no longer a regular on Braves TV (replaced by C J Nitkowski a year or so back) but I can find no info as to what he's doing now.

Best thing about Torrens is that he somehow knows he belongs. He is having a bad homestand, they let him bat against the righty with two out and the sacks packed while Nimmo and Baty sit, he gets in an 0-2 hole chasing sliders away, and he gives no shits.

We've, so far, gotten away with allowing a bunch of leadoff Phils on base.

And have usually had the antidote. Thank you Tyrone ... and Pete.

Have no idea where Schwarber was going. Not like he's going first to third.

Gary mentioned Butto serving up two 3R HRs to Bohm in his (Butto's) ML debut ... so I looked that game up.

Butto's first six ML batters faced went: Single - Walk - HR - Double - Single [schwarber, Hoskins, Bohm, Realmuto, Castellanos]. After that is was: K - RBI Single - Pop-Out - K

His line that day was: 4 IP, 7 ER, 9 H, 2 BB, 5 K [15.75 ERA; WHIP = 2.56]. It was his only ML game of 2022 (8/21/22)

Always good to get a reminder to not over-react too soon.

Bigger crowd than any Tuesday Night last year-,easily. It was all full except for the high deck outfield seats. That meant crowded concessions and bathrooms too. Could have used more help at the beer line.

Seats were great, Phillies fans were nearby but never could get a rythym going.

Atmosphere was *intense* for April 22. Explosive moments like Alonso and Torrens' hits and the 3 DPs especially the Schwarber one. Some dumb guys started a MVP chant for Lindor. Too early for that.

Had a Miller Lite and trip to the men's room that fortunately allowed me to miss the borough mascot race.

36,468 tickets sold which is pretty good for an April Tuesday. Agree the crowd was great.

Loved the Torrens reaction after getting disrespected by the intentional walk and Mendoza not lifting him for Nimmo.

I don't remember who won the borough race but it remains all scripted.

I think the Mets just might affirmatively prefer Kerkering to come in to games now.

Mendoza pushing all the right buttons so far. Even when they screw up (Acuna tagged out at 3rd), they fix it (Lindor following with a run-scoring hit). The Torrens call was the perfect example.

Mets look pumped, Phils look lifeless. Of course momentum is only as good as the next day's pitcher, and Wheeler's a tough customer.

Great game--thinking of playing hooky and going today.

GKR mentioned that Mendoza sticking with Torrens was reminiscent of his doing so with Bader in a similar situation last year, and that he is most definitely a "player's manager."

And it's bound to end. Most of these tough decisions are crapshoots, 70/30, 80/20, and sometimes the smaller number pops up.

I'd like to examine Acuna's "screwup" more closely. When Azocar gets himself into a sudden pickle between first and second, where exactly would you prefer Acuna to be? I think he did the right thing, drawing a throw. He might have done the wrong thing in trying to return to third when the throw went there, rather than taking off for home (and giving Azocar the chance to take third?). Sprinting home means there are two throws (2b-to-3B, and 3B-to-C) and two catches (3b and C) and one tag ©, all of which are rushed, which makes good things happen for the Mets. But most of the responsibility for a screwup belongs to Azocar-- Acuna, as I see it, was trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Yes, the main fault is with Azocar wandering too soon in the first place.

Most times, the defense is going to get one out from that kind of situation. You'd rather it be the guy between 1st & 2nd but, even if he's out trying to dash home there,

forcing the defense to go after him gives the other runner a free stroll into 2nd and you've still got a runner in scoring position.

Acuna's problem was that he wound up indecisive and in the middle. He's got to hang close enough to 3rd so that he can get back if they try to throw behind him.

Then, if he senses an opening or sees that the fielder with the ball turns his back for too long, he can break for the plate. Taylor did this in a game last week and stole a run.

Hanging close enough to 3rd and giving them a free out on Azocar is the next best option.

Getting caught at the base you start at is the worst of the three as it doesn't even advance the other runner. It turns it into the equivalent of Him being picked off.
