Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Stearns gets him at his price. I guess we are into the buyer's market portion of the winter.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Yeah, I think Sean would have hoped for 5 years ?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 That present came early.Hey, Steve. Just a reminder. There are eight days of Hanukkah. What will the other days bring?Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2024/20241009_NSD_02.jpg>Very good news!Mr. Alonso? Mr. Stearns will see you now.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Fangraphs projected Manaea at 3 and 60, so I wouldn't call it a buyers' market just yet. Plus Burnes is still going to get the eight years that Fried got, and I expect Sasaki will get quite a bit more than I'd give him as well.Having said that, I am happy to have Manaea back and I hope last year was the beginning of a solid four-year run for him.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Good.I guess this means we're out on Sasaki
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I hope not!Let's see... Senga, Manaea, Peterson, Holmes, Montas. Hmmm...I guess it would be a tight squeeze, but I think it could happen.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Good chance they'd go to a 6-man rotation, so there's room for Sasaki. Both he and Senga would do better on extra rest.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I'm not convinced that Senga is healthy enough to resume a regular spot in the rotation. Sasaki would be a good addition.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 This almost certainly means that Quintana won't be coming back. No real surprise there, but he was a real contributor. I wouldn't have been at all sorry to see him return. I also wouldn't be surprised if he, wherever he ends up, has a better year in 2025 than Frankie Montas.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 They are going to have a loaded rotation. No stand out greats in it, but I'd much rather have a bunch of #3s than a great #1 and four #5s. This is good news.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Sasaki will sign as an amateur free agent, so he'll be getting a little more than Griffin Canning buck$ from whoever signs him. Everything about this team has got to be appealing, you'd think. Marquee city, huge earning opportunities, Japanese mentor. He'd almost certainly be on a 6-man rotation here so he could acclimate a little easier and stay on something more resembling a Japanese schedule. The only thing working against the Mets is that New York isn't on the west coast. Let's hope he hates good Mexican food and traffic.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 We have good Mexican food here and bad traffic too , win win
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Passan says 3 years for 75 millionYeah!!

The deferred amount is $23.25 million, per another league source. It's a 10-year deferral (equal payments) starting in 2035 and ending in 2044.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I was quite pleased when I saw this signing come over the wire. Hopefully, the changes he made to his delivery in 2024 will continue to give opposing hitters major problems.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 They are going to try Holmes as a starterIn this day and age he doesn't have to be a horse to be effective in that roleI am accepting the idea that Stearns doesn't offer lengthy big money contracts to starting pitchers, Corbin Burnes will likely be an example of thatI will defer to Stearns given his track record, for now anyway
