This guys tweeted last night that an announcement is "imminent" and that the deal was done. I wish I knew how to embed tweets.

Anyway, safe to say that there's been no announcement and now his credibility is in question.

I just read a thing that David “Ping” Pingalore is a relative of

Pinky Tuscadero and that she has issued a statement that the

guy know his stuff! So who knows....

If the Mets lose out on Soto (shudder) I hope they have another big signing waiting in the wings for immediate announcement. A delay would be a buzz kill.

So you think that the Mets might have already signed a player but are managing to keep it a secret with the idea of pulling it out

after Soto makes a decision in some yet-to-be-determined time frame?

I'm going with a 'No' on that one.

No. I'm thinking of a tentative agreement that hasn't been signed yet. But both parties have agreed to wait for the Soto announcement because it is a Boras client.

I'm not too excited about this, which is why I only keep checking back to this thread every fifteen minutes.

Jeff Passan was on ESPN last night. He says no signing is imminent. All five teams still alive, meetings will be held this weekend. He expects there will be a resolution before the start of the Winter Meetings.

For whatever this is worth:

The Sporting News, which apparently still exists wrote:
On TikTok, Mets' manager Carlos Mendoza's son responded to suggestion that Soto would sign with the Red Sox by saying that the Mets offer to Soto is 15 years and $700 million. The account is confirmed to be Mendoza's son, while the offer is unconfirmed by MLB insiders.

Mendoza Jr needs to learn to keep his mouth shut.

P.S. I doubt he knows what the offer is because there's no reason why his dad should know what the offer is.

No reason? Really? He has meaningful access to everybody at the top of the Mets organization. Why wouldn't he know?

Yeah, I'm not sure what to make of that. The manager doesn't need to be in the loop on these negotiations, but that doesn't mean he isn't. It really depends on what internal relationship he has with Stearns and Cohen.

well, if he has been in the loop up until now, i suspect he no longer is.

It's such a strange negotiation. With the opt out, or I'd imagine, multiple opt-outs, it's tough to know how much the back end of that contract even matters. Let's say you give him 15 years. In all likelihood, that will moot when he opts out in 3,4,5 years, and if for some reason he's injured at his first opt out, he might use his second one later on.

I would guess that in addition to the dollars and years, there needs to be time to work out the specifics. How much is the signing bonus, etc. I would guess a team willing to front load the contract (meaning the years before the opt out) would have a significant advantage.

That can be where the Mets have an advantage. Front load the contract, tack on years to the back end bringing down the luxury tax, knowing that Soto will opt out in 3-5 years anyway.

Both Mets & Yanx (and maybe others) have offers in the $710 to $730 range [Jon Hey, Man - NY Post]

The Yankees and Mets both remain heavily involved in the five-team Juan Soto Derby, with both clubs recently upping offers into the $710 million-$730 million range — MLB record territory — as it's believed the sweepstakes could be within a day or two of an historic conclusion.[/i]

Can't believe the Blue Jays are hanging around at these levels.

Why? They're one of baseball 's very wealthiest organizations. The Jays' owner is almost as wealthy as Steve Cohen.
