Smoltz loves the word narrative

He really does.

He's kinda fond of "script" also.

Smoltz biggest narrative by far is "both teams do things differently "

Anybody remember my 'Even the wins are hard' thread from late May or there abouts?

I think it still applies, even in games with 2nd inning grand slams.

Diaz is powerfully hard to watch. Does he really need to put two guys on base before he settles in? Is he doing that just to push me closer to my own death?

I thought of that!

Like those games the Mets failed to tack on.

I hafta say I wasn't all that worried. The only reason it was even a game went to those errors.

Well, that and getting blanked from the 3rd thru the 8th vs the back end of their pen.

Really though, the Dodgers hit very little hard. The Muncy HR obviously, that ball that sent Nimmo to the track, an early liner to Marte, and Freddie's funky hop off the mound that Iglesies flubbed. Edman was the only guy with hits and he essentially just hit rollers or floaters that found holes.

But oh those fuckin' walks!

I'm not sure they can replace Nimmo and Marte, but Brandon is sure running with pain.

McNeil and Bader.

That's certainly the option.

Whether McNubby is an upgrade is an open question.

Not sure McNeil is an upgrade over Nimmo. But he's probably an upgrade over Marte?

I was for pulling Nimmo rather than Marte -- even though Nim's spot in the lineup would be up sooner and even though I called Marte a defensive liability earlier in the season -- mainly to get three good arms out there in case it came down to a potential game-tying and/or -winning hit.

Right move by Mendoza IMO
