Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 I got a 53, with some of the same guesses as yours. (Even though my numbers add up to only 52. I guess there's some rounding going on.)NEGL/300AVG - Willie Mays 6NEGL/10HR - Larry Doby 12NEGL/10W - Don Newcombe 10LAD/300AVG - Brett Butler 1LAD/10HR - Duke Snider 3LAD/10W - Fernando Valenzuela 8BAL/300AVG - Eddie Murray 8BAL/10HR - Brooks Robinson 2BAL/10W - Pat Dobson 2
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Newcombe could qualify in four categories: .300 BA and 10 wins for both Dodgers and Negro Lg,, and then doesn't miss 10 HRs by much which would slot him in twice more (topped out at 7 for one season just 117 ABs)

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 The categories that tend to give me the most trouble (other than Tampa Bay Rays) are 30 saves, first-round draft pick, and only one team.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2024 Posted February 9, 2024 Pretty bad rarity score but at least I was able to come up with all six of the two team overlaps. Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 I whiffed on the entire middle row. I had Howard Johnson as a Rockie third baseman and Walt Weiss at second base. Both were wrong.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 For the bottom row I went Miguel Castro - Gary Carter - and then dragged the name Brad Emaus from out of the cob webs (0.3% and not even a picture)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2024 Posted February 12, 2024 I did Gene Woodling (0.2%), Gary Carter (1%) and Ken Boswell (1%)

duan Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 I liked this one - a pleasant smattering of mets including one of my favourite rare ones in Desi Relaford - but wish I'd saved him for the Rockies as I'm sure he'd have done a damn sight better for me then Vinny Castilla! Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 It was kind of fun today. I blew it by forgetting the degree to which Buzz Capra sucked except for the year he won the ERA title with Atlanta.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 I went real low on the Pirates: Lloyd Waner (I under-cut FMan on Waners) - Brian Giles - Roy Face (all 1%'ers)and real low on Mets: Duke Snider - Lance Johnson - Tug (2.0, 0.3, 0.8)But not so low on the top line: Josh Gibson, Roy Campanella, Satchel Paige (13%, 12%, 77%)

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 I only got eight out of nine today, but I'm pretty sure I got gypped. For Played in Negro Leagues/Played Outfield Min. 1 Game, I chose Hank Aaron. I can't see why that would have been rejected.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 They only count Negro Leagues records up to 1948. I think that's an overall MLB rule, not an Immaculate Grid decision. I guess the logic is that after 1948, the best African American players were going into the major leagues? Not exactly true, but it's the only rationale I can think of.Aaron played shortstop for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1951. I fell into the same trap a couple of weeks ago.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2024 Posted February 24, 2024 I was going for an all-Mets grid, which I had through the top two rows.Alonso - Mays - SeaverRon Hodges - Piazza - DelgadoThen I had to fill out the bottom row with scrubs like: Oneil Cruz - [CROSSOUT]Bonus[/CROSSOUT] (frickin' auto-correct) Honus Wagner - Alex RodriguezPiazza (32%) and ARod (33%) wrecked any chance at a good rarity score.Alonso, Mays, Seaver, Hodges, Delgado, and Cruz were all 2% or under.
