Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 I'd like to see it happen.http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2015/20150726_NYDN_02.jpeg>
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2022 Author Posted December 14, 2022 I'm not entirely sure what role he plays unless he unseats Cahna. He's not really a defensive reserve and we have a LH hitting DH already in Vogelbach
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 He could platoon with Canha.Or unseat Vogelbach.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 I forgot about Confortoboom!I took fuck-yeah but really in camp why-not?
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Both options imply excitement about his potential return. Eh. I don't see a fit on this roster though i like him as a playerIf you assume 13 spots are for the offense:C: McCann / Nido1B: Alonso2B: McNeil3B: EscobarSS: LindorRF: MarteCF: NimmoLF: CanhaDH: Vogelbauch (vs R)you only have 3 spots - McNeil is probably the 5th outfielder so you really want a centerfield capable 4th outfielder. the other 2 spots need to include a SS-capable infielder (Guillorme?) and the righty-handed DH, i'd think. at this point, i'm likely to have Vientos or Alvarez be that righty DH and call the roster set. of course, if JD Martinez wants a 1 year deal i'd change my mind.Conforto fills none of those spots - he struggles with lefties and making him the leftfielder with Canha the righty DH is a worse lineup vs lefties than just playing Alvarez i think and i'm not sure you can carry both him AND alvarez unless you are willing to have no backup CF option other than moving Marte over?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Good guy.Bad fit.There are needs he doesn't fill.Later
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 A healthy Conforto is a good get at the right price.I was wondering if he had a chronic bad shoulder, so I looked it up. In 2017, he dislocated his left shoulder swinging and missing. Last January, it was his right shoulder. So I guess these injuries are unrelated.Or, alternatively, he has two bad shoulders instead of one.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Those two choices represent two pretty strong positions. There's room for him. Not a lot, but it's there, especially if Daniel gets Vogeled to another team.

But I don't see the Mets moving on from Vogelbach just to make room for Conforto.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Maybe not, but if the deal is there, he could be a bargain for somebody. Conforto presumably gives them more versatility.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 I really wish they'd sign JD Martinez, even in a down year last year he still crushed lefties and that is what the Mets need most. Also wouldn't be disappointed if the Mets were done other than maybe another reliever - they've spent a lot of money already and Alvarez/Vientos are there - see what you get of them at the beginning of the year. You can always spend Steve's money in June.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2022 Author Posted December 15, 2022 I'm juast scared Atlanta or Philly or the MFYs get him and he has a big year
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 I think he's more likely to get his game on with Milwaukee or Colorado, or possibly Seattle. He'll have his moments, but he won't be the difference-maker in a playoff drive or post-season run that has anybody passing the Mets. This I have foreseen.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Looking for a short term contract of a couple of years with an opt out , per Boras .. DiComo on it
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 A guy sits out for a year to recover from shoulder surgery, having originally injured the shoulder following through on his swing. I'm not seeing him get an opt-out mid-contract unless the front-end salary is really team-favorable. He's a high-risk proposition.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 I dont see the opt out thing either, unless its a team playing "luxury tax games" - more likely he gets a 1 year deal to showcase himself again for next winter where both he and the team are getting what they want?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Hey Man!: Marlins, Cubs, Astros linked to Conforto. Doesn't say shit about the Mets.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 It was all so much clearer when HVAC Guy at Shea was posting.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 I like him but he's not the missing part we need. And I think he holds out for at least a two year deal, and I wouldn't give him more than one.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 as much as i'd love to have him back, if he does come back, it's basically a disaster for him. he needs to go somewhere and have a full time job where he can prove that he's healthy and ready to go, playing for a team that can afford to have him out there long enough to try. and he won't and shouldn't get that opportunity here. healthy, and playing well, yeah, sure, he's way, way better than canha, and might be better that marte (too lazy to check stats to confirm). but we don't know that well enough right now to bank on it. so he'd be a 4th outfielder to start the season, and is that what he really needs to get on track, when he needs to prove he's a starter? maybe you bring him on as a fourth, with the goal of pushing out canha, but he's gotta get better offers than that, right?
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2022 Posted December 16, 2022 I always liked Conforto, but I don't think he is a good fit for this Mets team. We need a productive RH bat to DH and add some power to the line up. If that person can play the outfield or a corner infield position when needed, that's even better. Conforto will need to prove himself healthy and productive wherever he eventually ends up. He needs more opportunity to either sink or swim, than he would likely get in Queens.
