bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Kodai Senga, 29 year old RH SP, is on his way to MLB. His numbers are outstanding and would only cost $. I hope that the Mets are considering him.https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=senga-000kodhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=senga-000kodhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodai_Sengahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodai_Senga
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 A "ghost forkball"?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Hope he doesnt insist on wearing his old uniform number here in the US. That'd be a dealbreaker.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 The number is retired. Nobody else is going to wear it.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Doesn't make as many bats miss as you might think, but he does keep the ball in the yard. If 3 and 36 had a chance of getting him I'd be interested, but I'd be OK moving on if somebody goes over that.

Crazy world we live in.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 We do indeed live in a crazy world, but I'm ready to bet all my Hardy Boys books that 41 doesn't get worn in a game by a non-Seaver anytime in the next decade.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2022 Posted November 14, 2022 Here's how to put more retired numbers back in circulation: stop retiring so many numbers.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Some Guys On The Internet say this fella follows the Mets on his Twitter account so I'm taking that as definitive proof that he is in the bag
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 Wow. Not that much AAV. Worried about his walks and lack of strikeouts. But if he's anywhere near as good as advertised this is a great pickup.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 Me likey. He's got nasty stuff. It's like Steve Cohen is trying to make up for decades of Fred Wilpon in one off-season.They'll have to pace him a bit as Japanese pitchers aren't worked as frequently as they are here. But this is a good signing. Rotation is now complete- Scherzer/Verlander/Senga/Quintana/Carrasco. I'll go to war with that bunch, with Peterson and Megill on call if needed.Another bullpen arm would be nice, but I'm quibbling.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Just watched footage of him making MLB hitters look pretty foolish in the 2017 WBC. Love this move. He's got some filthy stuff.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) I like the numbers comparison, too.deGrom to TX - 5 yrs/$185 milVerlander, Quintana, Senga - 2/$86 mil + 2/$26 mil + 5/$75 mil = 9/$187 million Edited December 11, 2022 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 It certainly puts the eggs in multiple baskets.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 More excited about this guy more than Verlander, who seems more mercenary.BTW has the instant reply window gone away or did I toggle something wrong
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 We've put the instant reply window on hiatus for the time being.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Shocked when I heard they signed him.Make that pleasantly surprised. Now some relievers and a hitter would round out the roster nicely. But with Cohen's money, it will only be a matter of time.(yes, I'm greedy)Later

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 I never heard of Senga until recently, NBC local sports anchor reporting on this deal yyybbb " there are some injury concerns though" and added nothing else

Cuz while it's understandable that Uncle Steve wanted to make a big splash early [and you gotta say it worked as shooting from sub-.500 to 101 wins overnight is the kind of turn-around you rarely see] it would be nice to get to the point where we don't have to undergo such radical transformations each off-season.Last winter we hit big on Scherzer, on Marte, on Bassitt & Ottavino & Canha, and, to a slightly lesser extent, on Escobar (and, yes, I realize some of those were trades rather than FAs).But it's tough to count on that high a hit percentage so you're going to have to expect some McCanns mixed in when you put yourself in the position of needing to fill five or six major holes each off-season. And this is all before we even get into how some of these deals are going to look on the back end three or four, or five or ... Gasp!, Eight years down the line. It's a tough way to do business even when you've got the financial ability to play at that level.
