Hope he doesnt insist on wearing his old uniform number here in the US. That'd be a dealbreaker.

Doesn't make as many bats miss as you might think, but he does keep the ball in the yard. If 3 and 36 had a chance of getting him I'd be interested, but I'd be OK moving on if somebody goes over that.

I read somewhere that Camp Manfred is considering that retired numbers

may soon be able to be worn again so long as they're worn with the different

font than the retirees. Crazy world we live in.

We do indeed live in a crazy world, but I'm ready to bet all my Hardy Boys books that 41 doesn't get worn in a game by a non-Seaver anytime in the next decade.

This is even nuttier than the extra inning free runner on second base, if such a thing is even possible.

Wow. Not that much AAV. Worried about his walks and lack of strikeouts. But if he's anywhere near as good as advertised this is a great pickup.

Me likey. He's got nasty stuff.

It's like Steve Cohen is trying to make up for decades of Fred Wilpon in one off-season.

They'll have to pace him a bit as Japanese pitchers aren't worked as frequently as they are here. But this is a good signing. Rotation is now complete- Scherzer/Verlander/Senga/Quintana/Carrasco. I'll go to war with that bunch, with Peterson and Megill on call if needed.

Another bullpen arm would be nice, but I'm quibbling.

I like the numbers comparison, too.

deGrom to TX - 5 yrs/$185 mil

Verlander, Quintana, Senga - 2/$86 mil + 2/$26 mil + 5/$75 mil = 9/$187 million

Shocked when I heard they signed him.

Make that pleasantly surprised.

Now some relievers and a hitter would round out the roster nicely.

But with Cohen's money, it will only be a matter of time.

(yes, I'm greedy)

I never heard of Senga until recently, NBC local sports anchor reporting on this deal yyybbb " there are some injury concerns though" and added nothing else

Two really since last winter had as many wholesale changes as this winter.

And that's a good thing ... mostly. Cuz while it's understandable that Uncle Steve wanted to make a big splash early [and you gotta say it worked as shooting from sub-.500 to 101 wins

overnight is the kind of turn-around you rarely see] it would be nice to get to the point where we don't have to undergo such radical transformations each off-season.

Last winter we hit big on Scherzer, on Marte, on Bassitt & Ottavino & Canha, and, to a slightly lesser extent, on Escobar (and, yes, I realize some of those were trades rather than FAs).

But it's tough to count on that high a hit percentage so you're going to have to expect some McCanns mixed in when you put yourself in the position of needing to fill five or six major

holes each off-season. And this is all before we even get into how some of these deals are going to look on the back end three or four, or five or ... Gasp!, Eight years down the line.

It's a tough way to do business even when you've got the financial ability to play at that level.
