So following the Vogel single they had a walk + 8 hits which included 2 HRs and had made only six outs.

It's almost impossible to NOT have more than three runs by that point but not only did they have just three but given three more ABs to add to it and they STILL have just three out of all that.

I mean, I like having a lead and all but, man, they're leaving tons of shit out there.

Same shit, different game.

I used to have that cool books-in-a-dumpster-fire image but couldn't find it.

I fear that a massive fold-a-roo is looming large on the horizon.

And I had SO been looking forward to this series and kicking the Braves' ass six ways from Sunday.

Well, now it's Sunday, and my butt is very sore.

I guess the positive is we know that Wednesday's game won't matter so they can line up... the same 3 pitchers that sucked this weekend for the WC series. Sigh.

There is hardly a team in all of baseball that wouldn't take deGrom, Scherzer, and Bassitt starting 3 games in a playoff series.

The problem with having to play the wild card round, besides having to face the Dodgers in the very next round should the Mets advance, is that because the WC round is a two out of three series, it's virtually guaranteed that neither deGrom nor Scherzer will get to pitch more than one game against the Dodgers.

The wild card series:

Oct 7: deGrom

Oct 8: Scherzer

Oct 9: Bassitt

The best of 5 NLDS could be:

Oct 11: Carrasco/Walker on 5+ days rest (Or Bassitt on 5+ if they sweep)

Oct 12: deGrom on 4 days rest

Oct 14: Scherzer on 5 days rest

Oct 15: Bassitt on 5 days rest (or Carrasco/Walker if they swept the wild card and Bassitt started game 1)

Oct 16: Carrasco/Walker/Bassitt on 4 days rest, or push deGrom on 3 days rest with the season on the line.

OR do they do this? if deGrom and/or Scherzer get lit up early then Showalter gets the wrath of the NY media. if they win, he is the genius who "went old school" - sometimes your 37 year old ace just needs to march out there the day after he threw 7 innings and throw another one to beat the evil MFY. https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ARI/ARI200111040.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ARI/ARI200111040.shtml

But no matter how the Mets set up their rotation, should they advance, they'd be playing not only a well rested Dodgers team, but a team that will have its' rotation set up optimally. And the Dodgers' 3 and 4's pitched way, way better than the Mets 3 and 4's this season.

Since the Mets' fate is essentially sealed, they can reshuffle and go Scherzer 1 and deGrom 2 in the Wild Card Round.

That opens the possibility of Scherzer on short rest in game 5 of the DS. I see little possibility of deGrom going short rest in the DS.

Funny thing is I strongly support this playoff setup. I've been saying for years that the team with the best W-L record should get all sorts of advantages like a BYE in the first round, and getting to face the WC card team off a tough series, at home, etc.

Now it's not so funny.

There's no way they're losing three straight with that trio all lined up.

Yeah, we should hold a contest for "The Most Convincing Upside to Getting Swept by The Braves."

The online market for tickets to the Nats series just cratered.

=nymr83 post_id=109765 time=1664815448 user_id=54]I'd prefer going back to East/West with no Central in each league and then implementing the current system with 2 division winners and 4 wild cards. winning ANY division then has equal merit and the top 2 wild card spots also hold greater merit in hosting the 1st round.
