Yeah, that's pretty neat photoshopping for 1983. Was Photoshop even around in 1983? PC's hadn't yet reached mass consumption, or anything remotely close, in 1983. They were still in the early adopter stage in '83. But Topps left the stadium untouched. What it did, I think, was only to transform Valentine's Mets uni into an Angels uni.

I don't think Topps ever messed with the stadiums. Like on this 1973 card of Bobby Valentine, just below Ellis's:

The card is represented as an Angels card. But the photo is from Bobby's Dodger stint. The photo depicts an action shot at Dodgers Stadium. Again, Topps "fixed" the uniform, removing the Dodgers chest wordmark and adding Angels racing stripes to the uni. No need to mess with the hat because the front LA logo isn't visible.

I know Mo Vaughn wore it and stuff, but that uni Terry Collins is rocking didn't really do it for anybody, did it?

Agreed. I hate those unis. They're from when Disney owned the Angels for about five or six years. They did win their only WS, though, under Disney.

It is accurate to say that Topps airbrushed the cards rather than photoshopped. It's kind of like watching an old movie with my kids and they say "That's such bad CGI!" and I have to say "No. CGI hadn't been invented yet. That's bad chroma key."

And they didn't do anything to the stadiums and backgrounds in those days, just to the uniforms. That's definitely a Shea dugout.

The worst part of the uniform that Terry is wearing is the cap. Way too busy.

I kind of like the version that Jeff Torborg is wearing on the 1973 card. You don't often see the team name entirely in lower case. (I'm thinking maybe the Padres did it for a while?)

Also, I didn't realize that Jose Cardenal went all the way back to 1965.

What's your favorite Angels look?

I grew up with the Gil Flores look so that's what I think of first:

But the Torborg look with the floating halo is probably more distinctive:

I've already said the Collins look is the worst ever in baseball.

Today they lean so hard into red it's admirable but also a little much. I also think they went too extreme on the number font but its not unhandsome.

There's an old dude down the first base line rocking one of the early Angels' halo hats. I want to hate on this, because it clearly didn't work, but I like that they embroidered it in there, rather than printing it or something, and that they went for something outside-the-box but on brand.

I give it a C or C+. Inspired but coming up short.

My favorite Angels look? The unis the Angels wore in 1969 and 1970, that were pretty much, exact copies of the Mets contemporary home and road uniforms, but without any logos or wordmarks.
