Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Great, Showalter has ALREADY BROKEN OUR TWEET EMBEDDING TOOL!!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Fix't. Apparently, the tool didn't accept "mobile" in the URL. I'll try to get on that.Showy has to be the most experienced manager the Mets have had since Stengel. Probably nobody else even close.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 What a shocker! Who saw this coming? /snarkLike eff n jeff coulda snagged somebody like Showalter. Not even in their dreams.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Fuck up.Ex-Yankee Fuckup, to be specific.Bitterly disappointed.Ya spend years detesting these Yankee jerkoffs, Steinbrenner apologists, and evil Empiracists, and then the Mets gotta shove another one down my unwilling throat.I'm agin it.Fuck.Up.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 What a shocker! Who saw this coming? /snarkLike eff n jeff coulda snagged somebody like Showalter. Not even in their dreams.of course he could've. The Mets never particularly have had problems attracting people, though there's been talk of it being an issue in the Cohen years so far. I can't imagine publicly choosing your manager and interviewing token guys and whatever the BS pitch they were giving GMs is can be a good thing for interviewees though. But Buck's probably fine/good. "Good enough" at least, which is pretty much the Mets MO and certainly Cohen likes guys he's heard of. He even said as much in his intro press conference, where he poo-pooed the idea of hiring anyone unproven. But let's see what happens. Still got some players to sign, though you locked them out. It's a red flag that Cohen announced this himself too, and how involved he's been. We all pretty much assume/know Jeff/Fred meddled most years, but at least they pretended.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Indisputably old Casey Stengel's first big league managing season to when he took over the Mets: 28 years. Not all that ancient-seeming Buck Showalter's first big league managing season to when he takes over the Mets: 30 years.Time flies differently these days.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Nothing wrong with a safe pick.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 I like it. Buck increases the Mets "old white guy" factor by several decibels.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 Good hire. His Yankee taint was ages ago. I don't have a problem with Cohen announcing it.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Lenny Dykstra does not approve.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 The old drunk staggers out of bed at the hot-sheets motel along old Route 13 fully clothed, reeking of Old Grand-Dad and Lucky Strikes, fumbling for his drug store sunglasses to shield his bloodshot eyes from the pitiless noonday sun. He shuffles barefoot among the empty liquor bottles on the floor, empties his bladder at the toilet that won't flush properly then vents at his laptop for a minute and 19 seconds, screaming into the void in the desperate hope that somebody will actually care enough to send him a little validation or even money to cover his back taxes. His task finished, he vomits quietly on his Members Only jacket for the third time this week and slumps in the rickety motel chair, completely spent, oblivious to the manager's pounding fist on the flimsy motel door echoing through the squalid room, portending forcible eviction.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 I think Lenny's got some of that drain bamage you used to hear about.

Showalter will wear #11.“Buck has been one of the best baseball minds for the last two decades and he makes teams better,” said Chairman, CEO and Owner Steve Cohen. “We have a lot of talent on this team and Buck is the right manager to take us to the next level and lead us to sustained success. I'm energized and eager to get started.”“This has been an extremely thorough process and I am delighted that Buck will be the next manger to lead the Mets,” said President Sandy Alderson. “He is dedicated and experienced, which are two key qualities we were seeking in the next leader of this team.”“This is a significant day for the organization,” said General Manager Billy Eppler. “Buck is one of the most experienced and accomplished managers in the game. He is the perfect baseball mind to lead this team and usher in the next era of Mets baseball. I look forward to working closely with him in the years to come.”He began his managerial career with the New York Yankees in 1992 and remained through 1995. Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 A number I associate with Tim Teufel, even though he's had plenty of company.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2021 Author Posted December 20, 2021 I think first of Wayne Garrett, then Lenny Randle.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 20, 2021 Posted December 20, 2021 Tim Teufel, and then Tom Veryzer.Randle really seemed like a guy who tried to get 1 but found it occupied when he arrived, but looking back, I see he never wore #1 before the Mets and never got to until his last stop blowing baseballs in Seattle.Eleven is a number I associate with blond white reserve infielders who wear glasses. Now I want to retroactively assign it to Mike Cubbage.
