bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Even if the pursuit of Scherzer is Boras' way of driving up the price for the west coast teams it's fine because it gives them less money to spend.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I don't know about Scherzer, in the back of my mind I could see him cominghere and being all Tom Glavine ll or something...
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I keep thinking that the clock is going to run out on Scherzer ... and it certainly will at some point but it hasn't yet.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Kris Bryant isn't hurrying to sign.https://thespun.com/more/top-stories/mlb-world-reacts-to-sundays-kris-bryant-news?fbclid=IwAR1H4lu2PhonlM9KNezPMkxzkAG0iPwygxw-6RXxT286bO4EcqDBimMA980https://thespun.com/more/top-stories/mlb-world-reacts-to-sundays-kris-bryant-news?fbclid=IwAR1H4lu2PhonlM9KNezPMkxzkAG0iPwygxw-6RXxT286bO4EcqDBimMA980Later
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I think the Mets will have to greatly overpay to get Scherzer to come to New York. He has definitely expressed a preference to being on the west coast. Great as he is, I don't think he is worth $40 Mil./yr. for 2-3 years. I would prefer getting Gausman and making a serious run for a Stroman return. I'm not as sold on Jon Gray

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Why wouldn't Scherzer be worth $40M/yr? I guess if Scherzer signs with the Mets for that amount, ol' Steve Cohen will only have some 13 or 14 billion dollars, less $40M leftover to sign other players. Woe is him.(Like it's my money and I personally hafta pay for Scherzer to play for the Mets.)
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 That's what they offered Bauer and Scherzer isn't a dick.I'm fantasizing about Scherzer pitching game two at home on 4/2 v. WSH and then the WSH home opener on 4/7.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 I have tepid interest in Max for 3 years. I don't care about the salary or howmuch money will be left in anyone's coffers after paying him. The second half or two thirds of that three years could be quite miserable.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 28, 2021 Author Posted November 28, 2021 Skimp on pitchers, but never skimp on cleaning staff. That's my motto. So, all this hot stove action happening now, I'm guessing, is because precedent suggests players under contract will still get paid in part or whole after a work stoppage, and players not under contract won't? Is that correct?
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 If the Mets sign Scherzer for an AAV of $40+ Mil., then Cohen best be prepared to back up truck to keep DeGrom (assuming he can stay healthy).Gausman signs with Toronto for 5 yrs. at $110 Mil.

The labor issue might be done in a month or they might drag into the summer - these guys and their families want to know where to rent, where to enroll the kids in school

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 IF this happens, and IF deGrom is healthy, holy shit at the top of this rotation next year. (We're going to play .400 baseball because the other three starters will still be terrible, but hey, whaddya gonna do.)
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Goin' after the old guy.I wonder if they can convince R.A. Dickey to make a comeback.Later

The longer it drags out from being "moments from a deal", the more likely Max is to sign elsewhere (most likely Los Angeles). I hope I am wrong, but that is the feeling I get.
