Duvall grand slam in the first nullified by two pair of Astro runs in the second and third — then Freeman unties it with a no-doubter in the bottom of the third. The teams are 10 runs apiece from replicating the Philly-Toronto 15-14 headspinner of yore.

Zack Greinke just singled as a pinch-hitter, thereby securing my Hall of Fame vote.

Greinke, pinch-hitting, gets the last hit by a pitcher in the history of baseball.

OK, maybe not the absolute last one ever but purdy damn close.

Astros take a 7-5 lead in the fifth with the bottom of their lineup getting it done.

It sounds like that's a very (artificially) loud stadium down there.

I mean, all these stadia are artificially loud these days but this one even more than usual it seems, a good chunk of which is likely MLB directed.

The organist there still gets his/her chops in (like playing 'I'm a Little Teapot' for Jose Altuve the other day) but it's being squeezed-out/drowned-out by the piped-in stuff.

Kendall Graveman batted in the top of the ninth n order to stay in and complete the non-save save (four-run lead). He looked at a three-two strike to complete the final scheduled pitcher's AB of this World Series (and maybe forever).

Zack Greinke remains available off the bench for Houston after the 9-5 Astros win.

I guess it's still so ingrained for Trevor Hoffman, but when those Hell's Bells chimes started, my first thought was “uh, there's no reliever coming in right now?”

they need to make sure you hear the racism.

At least they didn't win it at home, now hopefully the Astros can keep them from winning at all.

Hey Coach.

I throw an 82 miles per hour hanging slider.

Put me in there.

I can strike out Travis D'Arnaud.

Especially with runners on base.

I'm watching Star Trek reruns now. Even if I gave a fig for either of these teams, you can bet I'm not watching anyone else celebrate a championship. Fuck. That.

I'm beginning to get the feeling that it is entirely possible for a team from the NL East that hasn't won a championship since the 20th century to win the division with fewer 90 wins and then win the World Series.

Sigh.

For a more anticlimactic WS clincher we probably need to go back to 1987 when the Royals put up 2 in the 2nd inning, 3 more in the 3rd, and then hung a 6-spot in the 5th en route to an 11-Zip Game 7 thrashing of the Cardinals.

Jorge Soler's powerful case for MVP is verified with the Willie Mays trophy.

Congratulations to the Braves, the team and the Front Office. They lost one of the top 5 players in baseball to injury, a very good OF because of his despicable behavior plus a top SP to injury and still won with crafty trades at the deadline that didn't cost them a top 10 prospect.

Their fans and the "look-at-me" organist can go screw themselves.

The last 2 162-game season World Champions are from the NL East. Let's hope that the Mets can be the 3d in 2022.
