Marte is somebody the Mets looked at for a while, so naturally he's now having a career year. Luzardo is a once-elite prospect who's had trouble logging in innings (granted last year was not his fault) and has not looked ready for the show this year. I think it's a great low-risk, high-upside gamble for the Marlins, but it may work out well for the A's too.

In better news, apparently Max Scherzer will not waive his 10/5 rights for a trade to the Bronx. Seems like there was a time not long ago when all the top stars wanted to be traded to the Yankees and then had those gross press conferences where they talked about this being their best chance to win a championship. I'm glad those days are over.

I'm pretty sure that Hand was almost a Met twice--Sandy said that he would have gotten him from CLE if Cohen took over sooner and then the Mets offered him a contract to be a set-up man but he wanted a one-year deal as a closer so he could return to FA as more than a set-up man (how's that worked out so far?). If the Mets had Hand would they have signed Loup?

Relief pitching is a crap shoot, and the Mets have learned the hard way that aiming high doesn't make it any less of one. The Loup signing looks great right now. The May signing looks kind of meh though. Hand wouldn't have been worth it.
