batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2021 Posted June 7, 2021 Mets @ Orioles - Tuesday, 6/8/21, 7:05PM ETDavid Peterson v. Bruce Zimmerman
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 A marquee matchup of hittable lefties.I never heard of Bruce Zimmermann before 5 minutes ago but hard not to think his folks named him after Springsteen and Dylan.Went to Towson State right nearby. Was one of two shitty pitchers received from Atlanta for Darren O'Day and Kevin Gausman. In a deGrom-less world Gausman would be a leading Cy Young candidate
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 It really is a sink-or-swim start for Peterson, isn't it? And Baltimore is a hot lineup to be facing. Their pitching ... not so much.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 At least it's very likely that Peterson will pitch better than he did last time. But yeah, he really has to step up. I'm sure the Mets are actively considering alternatives to him, whatever those alternatives might be.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 There is this lefty in Toronto. Good stuff but hasn't put it all together yet. Might benefit from a change of scenery.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Gonna be a steamy night in Balamer. Balls are going to fly out of the yard.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Mountcastle (have no idea what his non-porn name is) is coming off AL Player of the Week honors
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Almora and Guillorme are in the lineup tonight... the Syracuse Mets lineup. I'm guessing that Mason Williams and Travis Blankenhorn are the 1st two to be sent down. Jeff McNeil is getting close to starting a rehab assignment. Who goes after that (assuming that everyone else stays healthy)? They have 14 pitchers so one of them? Brandon Drury is a nice bat off the bench and can play 3B and OF so I'd like to see him stick. Jose Peraza has shown some value, too.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 I forgot about Almora, it's hard to keep up with the carousel.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Peraza has to stay over Drury. He can play 2nd, short, or 3rd, can run and has a bit of pop. They may be reluctant to send a pitcher down as they're facing a gazillion games over the next 30 days.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Let's see if Peterson can hold a first-inning lead.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 I understand wanting to give Pete an easier night, especially on a hot night, but perhaps Pete at 1B and McCann at DH might have been a better decision.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Lucky the bullshit call didn't cost them there.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 I didn't see that call at 1st to be as cut and dried as G & R did.Now it still took them ridiculously long to decide on it, but I think the time to decide on the call was worse than the call itself. And we got to see what an inning looks like when we're Not playing defense the way they've been doing so lately. Two plays not made: McCann (should have been an E) and Lindor not making the turn smoothly.

I have no fucking idea what the booth is going on and on and on about with all that outrage about what a supposedly bad call that was. I dont see the indisputable evidence, or any evidence at all that the runner was clearly out.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Peterson is done. Time to send him down to figure it out.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Well, Peterson isn't fooling anybody here.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 Every angle they showed he was out. Not outraged, just shaking my head that it took five minutes to GET IT WRONG.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 An exposé that the replay umps have money on the games would be funny.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 This game reminds me of the conversation from BALL FOUR when the pitchers were discussing grips a few days after Bouton had a bad outing-- 'So Jim, how do you hold your Doubles?'
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 8, 2021 Posted June 8, 2021 You can't blame Peterson. I mean, it's Pat Valaika.
