G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Take a hike, Wheeler. Peterson's our guy now.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Zack Wheeler is interesting as a comp to Stroman. https://stathead.com/baseball/player-comparison.cgi?player_id2=stromma01&type=p&player_id1=wheelza01&sum=0&request=1https://stathead.com/baseball/player-comparison.cgi?player_id2=stromma01&type=p&player_id1=wheelza01∑=0&request=1Stroman's seems to have been slightly the better pitcher over the career - but is the consensus that Wheeler might be better now?I'm not sure - who'd take who for the next 5.5 months
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I'm declaring this one a Big Game: Series on the line, a seeming pitching mismatch we need to win back to overcome the OD debacle, and demonstrate we know what to do with the little momentum we generated in the semi-fraudulent sweep yesterday. Plus, Petey needs to sing for his supper, Wheelie before live fans at Citi for the first time, Lindor, Conforto and Alonso facing the kinda guy they need to hit. IT'S ALL ON THE LINE TONIGHT!!!!!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I agree that this would be a fantastic game to win, especially since tomorrow is looking more and more like a rainout.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Phils have shown very little in the way of defense — big ticket imports Realmuto and Harper excepted. And even Harper putzed Nido's double into a triple. The Mets don't need to be imitating McNeil's half-swings, but they need to put a little bit more in play. I hate the games where they strike out 14 times believing they're one swing away from the big three-run homer. And with Wheels on the mound, that sort of game seems to be looming.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Boy, I feel like Wheels is going to be pretty jacked up to pitch in Queens and shove the ball down our (proverbial) throats.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Author Posted April 14, 2021 Pitching in front of nobody last Labor Day at Citi he was hittable, but well supported.https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN202009070.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYN/NYN202009070.shtml
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 And his opponent was David Peterson.Hmmm.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Author Posted April 14, 2021 Where is Erasmo Ramirez when we really need him?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Erasmo is living his best alternative life as an Alternatiger at Detroit's alternative training site. He's, like, the Rick Springfield of Major League Baseball, looking in the mirror all the time, wondering what folks don't see in him.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 He needs to be more cool with the lines. Ain't that the way baseball's supposed to be?

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Looks like one of those nutty April wind nights.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Terrific 1st inning for Petey
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 If you can't get the mlb.com/SNY feed, it's on MLBN with Matt "I'm an idiot!" Vasgersian and John "I hated the Mets and I know everything about baseball!" Smoltz.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Vasgersian: the ointment to help you feel fresh all day
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Here we go.wheels off!
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Sabermetics: Zach Wheeler was the Tuesday Night Mets Club Cy Young Award winner in 2019, for best performance on Tuesday nights at Citifield. The issue vexing the Phillies analytics and coaching staff is carrying that success over to Wednesdays.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Would be nice here if Mccann would begin earning his $$
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Anti-Matzer inning from Davey Boy, that. (Following Dom's near-make double/"error")
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Well, that's what happens when you don't strike out w RISP. At least you get one run home.Later
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 And now... Mike Pelfrey is on the phone, for some reason?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Pelf almost jinxed Peterson there.I kid! Almost any ex-Met on the phone is OK by me.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Peterson looked nasty against Harper there.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Guillorme HAS to get a new walkup song. He's just gotta.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I like how far the thread in the swirly serif in the Phillies' P pops out from their hats further than the thread in any other insignia. It's like a bubble of paint.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Not usually a big fan of those mid-inning phoners, but Pelf's was finger-lickin' good. [bow tie spins; vamps offstage]Jean F. Segura, meanwhile.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Peterson has a much better beard than Wheeler. He should get the Win on that basis alone.
